Occupying high peaks including those of the Long Knap, Goliaths are relatively rare in Cabochon. Their small colonies known as 'bastions' dot various montane areas throughout. Most notably, a large colony in the Ochre Hills create an understood boundary between the Darkfyre pack of the Lost Steppe and the
gnomes around
Du'chan. While not as terse as the southern
dragonborn, goliaths often choose physical resolution to conflict rather than long-winded debate.
Basic Information
Claiming origin from the giants of old, Goliaths carve similar yet smaller silhouettes. Standing 7 foot tall on average, these hulking humanoids have adapted to life at high elevations. The low oxygen and cold temperatures of these altitudes may suffocate less hardy creatures but goliaths take it in stride. Their bodies are naturally muscular and require a largely carnivorous diet to maintain muscle mass. Donned in furs and leathers, goliaths also accent themselves in colorful inks that may help display their tribe, rank, and family. Skins color can vary between albino white, various shades of grey, and even light green. Most male goliaths grow little hair on their head apart from massive beards while female goliaths present with many types of head or facial hair.
Additional Information
Goliath society is largely structured in nomadic bands who align themselves to one of several worshiped giants. While tribes my adopt the surface ideals of their worshiped saints, goliaths value strength and self-sufficiency as they do life itself. Golaiths that fail to contribute to the tribe or become too frail are expelled. Sickness and injury are treated but grievous injury and terminal diseases are treated with such resignation. As do their giant gods, goliaths would rather die in battle than succumb quietly. This injured pride leads many to pyrrhic battles even within their own tribes to establish dominance. Displays of talent and dedication are how goliaths establish their standing within tribes and will openly mock weakness anywhere displayed irregardless of relationship or nobility.
