Cohil Podiii (/cohil ˈpɔdijɪ/)

Purpose / Function

The Cohil Podiii was intended to be a bathhouse. This structure, with its specific features and rooms, was designed to enhance the user's bathing and relaxation experience. Its primary clientele were those who lived and worked in the port of Unatheas.

Architecture

The Cohil Podiii was a unique, beautifully constructed wooden building composed of three distinct, purposeful rooms. These included a welcoming entrance space, a practical wash room, and an indulgent steam room, each carefully designed to enhance the user's experience. Upon entering, one was greeted by the pre-bath entrance room, a comfortable space equipped with wooden pegs for hanging clothing, as well as benches for resting and preparation before the bath. This room served as the initial transition space from the outside world to the tranquil environment inside.

Next, the washing room was where the actual bathing took place. It was equipped with a large barrel containing hot water, which had been heated by the stove in the adjoining steam room. This room also featured a vessel for cold water. Together, these two elements created a system that allowed for the mixing of water to a comfortable temperature for washing. This thoughtfully designed room catered to comfort, cleanliness, and relaxation.

Finally, the steam room was where the magic truly happened. It housed the characteristic boulder stones and a large cauldron for the hot water, both integral to creating the steam room experience. Stone stoves were also present to heat the water and the stones, contributing to the creation of a warm, inviting ambiance. The room featured wooden benches strategically placed across the space, providing a comfortable place for relaxation and contemplation.

The steam room was entered when the stove was sufficiently hot, but crucially before water was poured on the rocks, ensuring a satisfying and invigorating steam bath experience. A unique feature of the steam room was a hole in the ceiling, which allowed the smoke to escape. This smoke, over time, had darkened the interior wood, adding character and a sense of history to the structure.
