Port Mina

Port Mina is a large port-city in Southeastern Terra Carte. The volume of trade which flows through Port Mina can at times rival that of Broken Wheel though cycles of merciless high taxes, exorbitant protection fees, and violent crime tend to keep it below its rival.

Defences

Port Mina has little in the way of defenses boasting a rough, wooden palisade and simple gate to control entry by land. Sea entry is only guarded in an admistirial sense and even that is spotty oversight at best.

Industry & Trade

Port Mina is known for its maritime trade and is one of the most well known ports of call on Terra Carte. All manner of goods from North and Southern Quarren make their way into the Terra Carten mainland through Port Mina. Stiff tarrifs and taxes administered or amplified by the local officials see to it that Port Mina benefits from the high-traffic trade it sees.

Districts

Port Mina is largely broken up into three distinct districts: Waterfront, The Mills, and Inns Way.

Waterfront

Waterfront is by far the largest of the three districts in Port Mina. Spanning nearly a mile along the coastline, Waterfront is comprised almost entirely of docks, wharfs, warehouses, and other infrastructure dedicated to the sea-trade that sustains the city. Spotted throughout the district is the occasional business or residence which does not participate directly in the running, maintaining, or overseeing of the port.

The Mills

The Mills derives its name from the large wheat mills at it's center and is consider the center of non-maritime trade in the city. Located on the southern side of the city along a slight rise, the characteristic mills take advantage of the strong sea breezes to grind wheat and other grains brought in from surrounding farmlands. Around these mills have sprung up many local shops, eateries, and - most importantly to the people of Port Mina - the bakeries.

Inns Way

By far the smallest district in Port Mina, Inns Way refers to the best road through the city and the glut of Inns which dominate this thorough fare and the residences around it. Many of Port Mina's most affluent denizens can be found in Inns Way as well as the Town Hall.

Guilds and Factions

Port Mina is home to several local factions as well as a merchants and sailor's guild. However, Port Mina is most known for being home to one of the most prominent and ill reputed factions in all of Terra Carte, the Iron Krakens.

Architecture

The architecture of Port Mina can best described as "sloppy". Many of it's buildings are old, in disrepair, and in a good need of cleaning. The ocean air wrecks havoc on most of the structures in Waterfront and the buildings in the rest of the districts fair little better. Only the homes and work places of the affluent recieve a modicum of care but most of the coin is spent on luxury rather than upkeep.
