Maisancienne is one of the oldest settlements in Terra Carte. It's history begins almost 100 years before the breaking when it was founded as an inland mountain garrison of the DeShattue. The garrison there controled a minor pass toward the coast and was generaly considered to be of little consequence. After The Breaking however, refugees flocked to the mountain fortress which had stayed mostly intact despite coming to res several thousand feet closer to sea level. The fledgling community benefitting greatly from the martial discipline of the garrison and quickly grew into a thriving city. The new river cutting through the old pass provided ample fresh water and easy access to the newly formed Gulf Grifon created a prosperous fishing city which later became one of the largest ports and shipyards in the area.

Government

Maisancienne is run like many of the other major duchies of modern DeShattue, Duke De Terre Jaquemin Le Sueur resides over the city as the capitol of his duchy. Several other smaller cities pay taxes to the duccal crown in exchange for protection and merchants rights within the bounds of the duke's realm. Duke Jaquemin holds near absolutle authority answering to a handful of noble families and powerful guilds.

Infrastructure

The heart of Maisancienne still bears some of the old infrastructure of the original fort. Jaquemin Le Sueur's familial keep is built on the bones of the old garrison guardhouse and the city's bell tower is an extension of one of the old watch towers. The rest of the settlment has modern origins.

In the protected bay at the head of Gulf Grifon, Maisancienne hosts well rounded ports and an impresive shipyard. While her shipyards are not near the marvel of Port DeVide, they have supplied the duke and by extension Les Ressemblant with dozens of ships to bolster the new armada.

Beyond the ports and shipyards the river teems with waterwheels making good on the agrarian life style of the modern DeShattue.
