Banto

Approaching the village

On the north-eastern side of Chee´, the Tabonuco trees grows thick and tall but the closer you get to the eastern coast of Piraguen, the sparser they grow. While walking through this part of the jungle, it's hard not to react to the awful stench that permeate the area. Following it leads to a grouping of unsually large specimens of these trees... and the source of the smell.

Scattered around the trees, on the jungle floor, lies dozens and dozens of rotting Coquían corpses. At first, it seems like people of all ages have fallen from the heavens to a violent and painful death. At closer inspection it's clear that although their bodies have been crushed by a fall, they were clearly attacked by some sort of sharply clawed beast first.

Walking around these trees or by looking up towards the sky, towards the usually non-existing rays of light, it's possible to find other signs of habitation. A not so sturdy rope ladder can be found on either side of the group of trees and while looking up, the view is uncommonly free from branches; This makes it possible to see a wooden bridge stretching between two of the trees on the south-eastern corner of the clearing.

What horrible scene is waiting above?

Demographics

The Bantons are calm and relaxed in their lifestyle. They protect the surrounding jungle by magically infusing nature or by placing traps, like most Coquían living in the jungles of Boricubos. They gather and hunt what they need for survival and therefore have little business with outsiders except the occasional wanderer or friendly Anabaguas or Coquíans from neighbouring tribes.

Government

Like most Coquían tribes, there is no clear leader but their Behique was the person most turned to when it came to decisions. Sadly their Behique died about a month ago in mysterious circumstances and his most experienced apprentice was the first to die in the recent jaguar attack. The remaining population is just trying to survive, although the defacto group leader is the new and unexperienced apprentice of the dead shamans.

Infrastructure

When settling in this part of Chee´, the founders dug out a groove as a walkpath around a huge Tabonuco Wood-tree (about 20 feet from the ground) and then carved out a hole within it, almost like a cave. As the tribe grew, the inhabitants tested all the surrounding branches connecting closely to other trees and expanded the village to cover several of the largest trees in this area. With time they built some bridges out of rope and wood spanning between branches further apart, to be able to move around safer, as many took to jumping far distances rather than taking a longer route. Most of these bridges have been destroyed in the recent jaguar attack however, leaving only one safe path to reach all the village trees.   The minimum amount of "man"-made objects keeps the village practically invisible from below and this has kept the village unnoticed and safe since it's construction. There is however 2 obscured rope ladders, in opposite corners of the village, where those who are'nt very adept clibers can reach the village from the jungle floor.   The hatchery contains a waterpump, made by a Wolákani long ago, that bring water from the ground up through the tree and into a giant "indoor" pool. This creates a very safe place for the developing youngsters.

Assets

Their storages and valuables have mostly been destroyed and is strewn about on the jungle floor and among the trees. What little they have left is inside the hatchery but is quickly dwindling.

History

A small village on the outskirts of Chee´. A simple and humble Coquían tribe, living of what nature has to offer. They do however craft decorative objects that have been traded for modern tools or produce on the Bikai market.

Architecture

The village spand over 7 trees of varying sizes. There are 3 living quarters, 2 of them housing most of the inhabitants which also have storage space for food, water and other neccessities. On the southwest corner, one of the smaller trees houses a temple to Maketaori. There are two larger trees to the north/north-west in the village which cointains two different kind of workshops or bases for different occupations. One of them is utilized by hunters and trapmakers, and the other is for leatherwork, pottery, making decorative objects, clothes and so on. Last but most importantly, in the center of the village, visible from all corners of the village, is the hatchery. This tree has been stripped of most it's branches, both above and below and can only by reached by either safely walking across from the largest of the "home-trees" or by the most experienced jumper.
