Pürik Hö

Üllemic: Pürik Hö /phyːrɪkh hœː/
Pürik Hö was an influential t'üllman monk in A'apfó Monastery, whose visions became the foundation for T'wanism, a branch of üdóism -centered around the wind god Üdó- to which most inhabitants of T'üllma now adhere to, and is venerated by them as a saint.
Born in a town in the province of Illüp in northwestern T'üllma, not far from the city of Apfó, Pürik Hö was sent to the A'apfó Monastery at a young age, where he lived an uneventful life of studying, praying and meditating on the nature of the gods, particularly Üdó, god of the wind and all flying creatures, for years up until Pürik was thirty-six years old when, according to tradition, the wind god spoke to him.
It is said that a strange bird1 landed right in front of Pürik one day while he meditated, and as it watched over him, the monk received a vision. He then told his friends of this experience, as well as the abbot, who noticed that Pürik described concepts and references to texts obscure even to the most learned theologians, and after discussing this with scholars at the Apfó University, was convinced that the monk had spoken the truth.
After that, Pürik's teachings were written down along with later dialogues between him and other monks, the abbot and visitors, including the king of T'üllma, which together form the core of what is now called t'wanism. Followers of Pürik believe that the common people are able to make the gods hear their prayers either through pilgrimage to Mt. T'wan or with the help of monks and nuns, rather than relying on the monarch and high priests praying on their behalf.
Pürik Hö died at the age of seventy-six when a strong gust of wind caused him to fall down a cliff while on a walk, after which it is said that the strange bird appeared once again on the sky, accompanied by Pürik's soul in the form of a pegasus with flaming wings. After the body was recovered and mummified, the teeth and certain bones were removed and distributed to various monasteries and shrines as sacred relics.

1Descriptions of this bird are vague, most depict it as with features of several different bird species or -especially outside Jælondis, as a gryphon.
