Lútlans

Ash lútlic: Júmlútl /juːmlutɬ/
Ochre lútlic: Mjúmlútl /mjuːmlutɬ/
The lútlans1 are a human ethnic group inhabiting the semi-arid steppe and hills of northwestern Ytvía in southern Jælondis, between the Lamþó Hills to the west, Qug Mountains to the north, and the countries of Nof and Ti'ei to the south and southeast.
Their language and customs are considered strange by the other inhabitants of the region, which lead many past scholars to the conclusion that lútlans are the oldest natives of Ytvía, but archaeological discoveries over the past decade tell a different story.
The lútlans were one of many communities who were subjects of the powerful Zmó Empire during the neolithic period, which controlled parts of northern Jútrilía and southern Þjaris, but migrated southwest to Ytvía when the empire fell. There they frequently raided more sedentary tribes, particularly the dwarven Ti'eians which forced them to live almost entirely underground, which eventually ended through diplomacy in exchange for the lútlans keeping their territory.
In recent years, as their connection to the ancient Zmóans became better understood, lútlan culture has piqued the interest of many scholars and tourists both from Ytvía and beyond, and are now often erroneously called the last zmóans in popular media. Their skills at carving, knapping and polishing stone tools, weapons and other objects are well known, many of which are now sold to tourists in addition to everyday and ceremonial usage.

Society

Lútlans tribes are loosely divided into two groups, namely the more populous ash lútlans on one hand and the ochre lútlans inhabiting the northeastern part of the territory, named so for their preferred ways of decorating their body, clothing and horses. While some do odd jobs in nearby towns and cities or have move there completely, many still subsist on traditional nomadic lifestyle based on raising horses and goats, hunting, fishing, carving stone objects and occasionally gathering frankincense in the Lamþó Hills, along with a budding tourism industry.

Religion

Traditional lútlan religion revolves around elaborately carved stone balls, each of which is believed to contain the very essence of each tribe and have been used for centuries in some cases. These objects are similar to ones found in zmóan sites in the country of Erenúm in western Jælondis, though the latter are overall simpler and feature different designs.
