Fair Luck Bay

Fair Luck Bay

Fair Luck Bay is a free settlement hidden away on the northwestern Balefires island of Roboba, in a harbor accessible only to those who know the secret routes. The series of barrier bars and reefs called The Mockingdrakes makes navigation via ship extremely difficult and only knowledgable captains are able to navigate their way into the harbor. On land, the town is surrounded by the jungle-covered Bucchew Mountains, which are virtually impossible to pass through.

People often accidentally call it "Fine Luck Bay," and the two names are used interchangeably, including by the residents.

GOVERNMENT

There is little to no recognizable government in town. Officially, the mayor is a male gnome named Arlo Dinkins, but those more in the know understand that he is just a puppet of Porter Munday, The Harbormaster. She is the closest thing Fair Luck Bay has to a de facto leader as she keeps tabs on all the ships that move in and out of the bay, collects tolls, receives reports of cargo, charges "service fees," of local businesses and landlords, and has the ability to Call The Fucking Flags.

HISTORY

Fair Luck Bay was supposedly founded by Captain Grinner the Grim and the crew of The Downfall. He and his crew are said to have founded as a secretly guarded location of their largest treasure score, The Stupid Snake God's Dumb Diamond Eggs. According to the myth, pirates, prospectors, and adventurers slowly found their way to the secret location of Fair Luck Bay, bringing with them families, friends, and others to support them while they searched for the treasure. Eventually many grew disheartened after not finding anything. Some forgot there was ever supposed to be treasure hidden in the area. But by that time, a whole settlement had grown along the bayside, pushing further and further into the jungle, as much that fierce wilderness would allow.
The origin of the name "Fair Luck Bay" is debated by the very few who even care. Some say it described the fact that the original settlers were unlucky enough to have never found treasure, but were lucky enough to have not been killed by jungle monsters. Others say it is because one must make one's own luck amongst the relatively lawless population.
