Yivugudzi Condition in Binaka | World Anvil

Yivugudzi (/jivuˈguʣi/)

Called The Great Decaying, yivugudzi is a flesh eating bacteria enhanced by magic.

Transmission & Vectors

The yivugudzi virus is spread by contact. It does not live long on inorganic surfaces (a few minutes), but can be spread from living tissue as well as dead organic tissues. The bateria can survive on dead tissues for up to four days.

Symptoms

The primary symptom is the rapid rotting of the skin. This is accompanied by a high fever and general sluggishness until the end of the cycle. As the victim nears death from a lack of skin, they will enter a manic phase, moving among other people. It is believed that this manic cycle is magically induced compuction driven by the bacteria's "need" to propogate.

History

When the Yibiduri first moved to Vidapa, they stumbled upon the the ruins of a city built by some advanced, ancient civilization. An expedition of 32 people in five teams of five and an operations base of seven was sent to explore the ruins.   One of the groups found a collapsed building, with a single room intact several meters below the ground. They could not interpret the symbols or the writings outside of the room and decided to open the door. It had clearly been sealed somehow as there was a hiss air rushing in as the seal was broken. What they found were a dozen dead bodies and several metal canisters of strange shape. Some of them had been broken open. To their shock, the bodies were well preserved. But within minutes they began to quickly decay.   The team reported the location back to the leader of the expedition and continued exploring. Within an hour of reporting in, three hours after first opening the seal, one of the members had open sores forming on his skin. Within four hours of breaching the seal, all five members had similar sores. Three hours after reporting in, six after the breach, the expedition leader and his aide had similar sores.   A quarantine was immediately established for the seven affected. But it was too late, the entire expedition had been infected during check-ins with the leader. They sent a runner back to the main camp and established a quarantine around the ruins.   The first victim (one of the original five) died five days later while trying to escape quarantine during the manic phase of infection. He managed to overpower several of the perimeter guards, infecting them. He was finally taken down by a barrage of arrow fire.   Four more from the expedition managed to escape quarantine. One made it all the way to the main camp, which had since been moved. This resulted in the infection of a full quater of the main camp, killing nearly 5% of the entire Yibiduri population within 10 days of discovering the site.   Probable source was an ancient site found at a place now called Zi Ďérigi, the Lost City. If warnings could have been read... Second age facility where bacteria was weaponized. Was located at a nexus point, which caused magical mutation of bacteria.
