Coriolis Alpha

Coriolis Alpha is a Forgeworld that by most accounts should not exist. The planet sits too close to its star. It would have been scorched, barren, and lifeless were it not for the defiance of the Priesthood which settled it. When they dismantled their Explorator Fleet in the wake of the the Cicatrix Maledictum , it was the void shields of their vessels that were repurposed to shield their forges from the fury of the star. 
The colonization was a desperate act done during a desperate time. Cut off from the greater Imperium, it was deemed indispensable to the survival of the sector that a Forgeworld was established in relative safe territory. Coriolis takes up a central position in the web of warp routes between the systems of Twin Bastion , serving as a rally point for the survivors of the Noctis Aeterna. Coriolis Alpha, in turn, is a rather massive world contained great mineral riches. The calculations were made, and the need outweighed the price. Thus the Forgeworld was settled.
Much of the Forgeworld's populace and infrastructure is subterranean to hide away from the star's radiant glare. Yet the limited depth in which they first settled means that some of the forges have poked their structures through the planet's skin like needles from a porcupine. Wherever this occurs, massive void shields span over the surface to supply much needed succor from the solar flares that scorch the surface and poison the ground.
