Dairon

Located on the western shore of Lake Fymorrh and in the shadow of Mount Ruin is the small town of Dairon. The people here live easy lives tilling fertile soil, tending to placid livestock and raising families.

Demographics

Dairon has a mixed population of races and financial success. There is a large population of Half-orcs within the town due to its historical roots.

Government

Ruled by a Minister appointed from Stockcross who oversees laws and matters of public order. The current Minister is Falu Shimmerhand who has been leading the town for the past 87 years.

Defences

Dairon has a vast network of towers and fortifications to guard the populace, many are topped with deadly ballistae that shine in the morning sun. Guards often set up targets on the outskirts to keep their skills sharp.    The Stockcross Public Consortium sends mages to bolster defences in times of peril.    As the town was originally founded to train troops during the War of Tears there is a strong military mindset here, many of the children born here dream of serving in the army and activley train for their eventual service.

Industry & Trade

The town has two military academies that train soldiers for the Kingdom, one specialising in frontline combat and the other in siege tactics. Due to its proximity to Stockcross it has a small dock within a few miles of the outskirts to allow easy transport between the east and west sides of the Kingdom, filling its markets with an endless variety of goods and wares.    The forges and windmills ensure that the town has an independent supply of food and steel for the soldiers and workers, though it often sends surplus resources to Torbritten for its stores.

Infrastructure

Sitting at the western edge of the town are windmills that crush harvested grain and on the eastern side sit forges that process ore into workable metal. Towards the southern edge of town is a large plaza where graduates from the academies parade before assignment to other towns. It is also used to hold mass meetings during public speeches or visits from the King.

History

The town was founded fifty years after the birth of Mount Ruin, firstly to aid in the resettlement of the region after the loss of Arrowfell, and secondly to secure a safe space to train soldiers during the War of Tears. Both the volcano and Lake Fymorrh acting as physical barriers to potential invading Dristons.    After the signing of the Treaty of Castle Gelda the town had a difficult decade where many workers and businesses suddenly found themselves without a market for their goods. It has tried in the last century to diversify itself to little avail.

Architecture

The town here is vertical in design, with homes reaching over 40ft tall containing multiple families. The structures are a combination of timber and stonework to give a rustic vibe, some are whitewashed with plaster to brighten the town. The ground floor of many homes are painted with frescos depicting landscapes to give the illusion that the town is floating above the ground.

Geography

The shadow and sight of Mount Ruin is omnipresent here, though the ash rarely blankets Dairon thanks to the persistent western wind. Though built on the plane that juts against the foothills the town benefits from natural springs of mineral rich water and perpetually warm soil, many homes utilise this quirk to heat their homes in the winter.

Climate

The weather here is warm and calm though storms can arrive from the north that drench the town in a torrent. During the winter it remains free of snow and frost unless a terrible blizzard rolls down from the Farscape Peaks. Should the wind fly in from the south it can carry sand from the Moshal Desert that irritates the eyes and renders a fine dust across all surfaces.    In the spring the town is surrounded with wild flowers and dance in the gentle breeze and fill the air with wonderous scents.
