Arrowfell
The ruins of Arrowfell sit on the southern slopes of Mount Ruin, the volcano that destroyed the town in 1142.
History
Arrowfell was a bustling settlement on the southern border of the Kingdom of Breaton, close to Lake Karparth and in the foothills of the Karparth Range. Citizens here led quiet lives farming the rich, fertile soil and producing animal-based goods such as leathers and wools.
In the year 1140 a series of minor earthquakes damaged a few older buildings leading to efforts from Farre to rebuild much of the town. Sadly, this goal was never achieved as in 1142 Mount Ruin erupted from the earth in the most powerful single eruption recorded in Beru.
The birth of this volcano destroyed several small settlements as well as Arrowfell. The town was given no warning as pyroclastic flows and lavabombs buired the town and its residents. The only survivors of this catastrophy were traders who were away on business in the kingdom.
Today the ruins stand empty in respect for the lost lives with laws preventing resettlement of the area. Traders still pass this way on their route from Farre to the Kingdom's western settlements.
Points of interest
Though most of the buildings were destroyed in the eurption, two structures remain fairly undamaged:
The Temple of Sirra - This temple to the goddess of death worshipped in the Kingdom of Breaton stands on the southern side of the main road at the eastern edge. The main hall remains standing however the roof has collapsed inward, the graveyard has been buried under ash, a statue of Sirra stands guard by the main entrance, though her head was destroyed.
The Black Stallion Tavern - Considered the worst tavern in Arrowfell when it was still thriving, the Black Stallion Tavern had a reputation for watered-down drinks, cold food and lumpy beds. Now, it stands as the only building in town with a roof and four walls. Thanks to its location at the south-westen border it was spared most of the forceful destruction and its construction of stone prevented its burning. Desperate travellers who plan their journey poorly use this former dive as shelter for a quick, restless night of sleep.
