Stockcross Public Consortium
The Stockcross Public Consortium was founded by King Kuvir Breaton to better understand Beru and its mysteries. There are five main schools of learning: Geography, Arcana, Monstrosities, Theology and Alchemy.
The School of Geography focuses on the physical world of Beru, from Mountains to Oceans. Students of this school spend much of their time wandering the wilds, recording natural phenomena, charting maps & detailing plants and animals.
The School of Arcana focuses solely on magic and its various subdivisions. Students of this school can pick one type of magic to specialise in or continue studying all types. Some students choose to spend their time helping non-magical citizens throughout the Kingdom of Breaton
The School of Monstrosities deal with the more interesting wildlife of Beru. Students here learn both how to kill dangerous creatures that threaten the Kingdom & how to live peacefully with those creatures who pose little to no danger.
The School of Theology studies the folklore and religions found within Beru. Students here often take up residence within Temples to study particular Deities or travel the lands recording and investigating legends and myths.
The School of Alchemy deals with the application of natural minerals found within Beru. Students here often use skills learned to help with manufacturing & processing of raw materials into better products
Purpose / Function
The school was built due to a pressing need to tame the lands around the Kingdom. It acts as a beacon for those wishing to serve their Kingdom in a more academic way compared to military service, though during the War of Tears the Consortium's focus shifted to warfare and military technological advancements.
With the five main schools being the largest and containing the most students they are often seen as the only pursuits one could take, but this is a falsehood as the consortium contains numerous other subjects open for study including governence and linguistics.
Alterations
The School of Geography was the first dedicated branch to be built as King Kuvir knew that the maps of his lands was inaccurate and sought a way to rectify this. The geographic wing was built to pay homage to the natural world with carvings of animals and notable geographic locations including volcanos, glaciers and waterfalls. The original building has since been expanded numerous times to accommodate more students and teachers.
The School of Monstrosities was the second dedicated department to be established in 993 after a noticed rise in attacks on border settlements. The township of Witchbark and its Minister championed this expansion as they had suffered a severe dragon attack. This building was originally the student dormitories and as such has a much more confined feeling compared to others. Three grand lecture halls were converted from the kitchens and stores to serve the new department. The exterior was also altered to have busts of fierce creatures to stand guard against the world.
The School of Arcana was the third to be built in 1005 as the student body continued to grow attracting those gifted in magic. This school was desinged around the library and mimicked the great arcane towers in Phancaster. The towering structure provides the best views of the city and can be seen from miles away on clear days as it stands nearly 300ft tall.
The School of Alchemy was built not long after the School of Arcana in 1042 as it became clear that wizard students required vast amounts of specific minerals for their spellcraft. The schools purpose was originally to act as a storehouse for these minerals until the following year when a careless student combined phosphorus and guano resulting in a fireball. This led the teachers to agree that students should be taught how to manage and minipulate minerals and resources for the betterment of the kingdom.
The final school to be built was the Theological School. This was built in 1161 after a public outcry from religious leaders as they saw the consortium was favouring Ilusi over other deities due to the School of Arcana.
