Doleran ('Dole-er-ahn)

With its prominent stone buildings and iconic assembly chambers, the city of Doleran has stood as the capital of of the Veymaran state at least as far back as its subjugation by the Carovarian Empire when its first recorded historical mention in the ancient text of Tertius Albas, "The Virtolian Wars" describes it as "the city of Dalerun, holy city of the Veigar." The city underwent many changes during its time as an important trade city in the Empire, with much of the infrastructure visible today in the old city being built during this time. Not much is left of its more ancient structure, except part of its old partition wall, and the foundation stones and refitted frieze on the temple of Alfagora.  Another notable piece of history which occurred during Carovarian period involves the origin of what is perhaps the single most notable thing about the city of Doleran: The Violaceous Wanderer. During the many years under empire control, one figure managed to take the role of High Archon of the Dusk assembly and twist the council to his wishes, using a vast wealth of charisma, he convinced the assembly to suspend many of its check on the power of archons and ruled the (then) Duchy of Veymar as nearly his own nation-state. As long as trade flowed through and the taxes to the Empire were paid, the emperors of that time didn't much care how their various territories themselves were run. This allowed this figure, known at this time as High Archon Stirot, to inflict great horrors upon his citizens. He darkened the sky by dark magicks throughout the land of Veymar, and the light of the sun did not fall even upon temple of Alfagora. Eventually after many failed revolts, a faithful worshipper and paladin of Alfagora named Pepin, distraught at the seeming destitution she had left her people to called out to whomever would listen for the power to take down Archon Stirot, and more importantly, to bring light to darkness. In response, that very night, the Violaceous wanderer appeared in the sky, providing a light in the city both day and night so that Stirot and his minions would have nowhere to hide. It also gave tremendous powers and courage to Pepin and those who followed him leading to an overthrow of Stirot and a reformation of the assembly. After the successful revolt, the Violasceous Wanderer is said to have promised Pepin that it would remain in the sky above that city as a guardian such that no power every again should cast the city of light into darkness. Much in the way of myth has of course been formed around this mysterious beacon, and it became a symbol and power of Veymar rivaling even that of Alfagora, such that in the dualistic way many of the sages of Veymar have begun to see the world, Alfagora is seen as the power of the light of day, and the Wanderer as the power of the light in the night, and both are seen as standing against the ever-present darkness in the surrounding world.

Government

The city, and in fact the land of Veymar is ruled by the The Dusk Assembly and its appointed head, which has had for over a century now been a single party gathering under the sole rulership of High Archon Telemon.

Guilds and Factions

The The Order of Light, which has since become the The Pact of the Fallen Star is a major faction in the city, having been formed as a group of national identity to safeguard the weak and lost and more recently has become more of an expression of Veymaran influence and political reach throughout the world.
