Devil

Devils are a type of fiendish creature. They vary widely in both appearance and power, and are typically Lawful Evil. They follow a strict set of rules and well known for forming contracts with mortal races, and sticking to the exact words of said contract. Devils have been known to add tricky clauses into said contracts, and are not well trusted by common folk.

Realm

Devils reside in a plane known commonly as Baator.

Hierarchy

Devils operate through a strict hierarchy. Each level of Baator is ruled over by an Archdevil. A devil may increase the ranking of another devil if they have the appropriate rank to do so.

Species

The title of devil is the name of the species, rather than an umbrella term like humanoid; which can cover a variety of speices. Devils come in many shapes and forms, but their forms are not determined by their birth but rather their rank. As a devil increases or decreases their rank within the hierarchy of devils, their form changes along with it, as well as the overall strength, power and abilities that they can wield. From the lowly imp, to the mighty pitfiends and archdevils that rule over the lands of the devils, to name a type of devil is in fact to name its rank. It's general abilities and power can be determined by its outward appearance.
