Baator (bay-AH-tor)
The Nine Hells of Baator, is the home of devils. It is a plane of sinister wickedness and institutional cruelty, its denizens organized into a strict caste system with a very rigid chain of command. Each of the nine Hells had its own physical laws or properties of matter, but all were inhospitable or deadly to outsiders.
Baator is the realm of devils, and is often stylised as a plane of sinister evil and inhabited by infernal fiends that would kill you as soon as look at you. I can assure you, that this is not entirely true... but it mostly is. Great care and discretion is advised before approaching or even speaking to a devil. While devils and other infernal creatures of their ilk are creatures to be feared, devils -unlike demons- have a strict hierarchy and set of rules they live by. A devil is far less likely to kill you without provocation than a demon is. That being said, one should never underestimate or let down their guard around a devil of any size or rank. For one can never be sure what a devils true motivation is. What can be assured however, that if they believe they can leave with the promise of your soul bound to a contract, they will be the most hospitable hosts you will likely encounter in any of the planes. More commonly known as the nine hells by the residents of the material plane, this name accurately describes one of the most fundamental features that Baator possesses, the nine layers that compose its form, each of which models a differing but no less inhospitable and dreadful environment, including barren planes of ash and rock to frozen wastes of endless ice. Trade
Inhabitants of Baator produce goods that cannot be found anywhere else. Green Baator ore and the steel smelted from it or arjale. Another notable export was Baator's own whiskey. It was a pleasantly-smelling steaming-hot drink that resembled boiling goldflow. When consumed, it burned one's stomach with sweet pain. Very few mortals could stomach even a single shot.Geography
As with all known Outer Planes, Baator is spatially infinite, consisting of nine sub-planes, or as they are more commonly known; layers. Each of the Nine Hells is unique and usually mirrored the malevolent characteristics of its ruler, or perhaps the archdevils were shaped by the domains they schemed to control, no one can be certain.
