The Tenth Holyar-Den

AppDex H: Holyar-Den - Description
Solitude Master Orada-Relius
The Tenth Holyar-Den is a simple spear. The spear is unique in design and composition. It is made from one entire piece of dark bone with a simple set of lighter lines running its length. These lines are on opposite sides of the weapon and are roughly 1/6 the width of the shaft in thickness. It is not known how these lines are made. They may be a simple colouration. They may be an adjustment of the chemical composition of the weapon. They may be an entirely unknown material. And, diagrams, while detailed, offer no illumination as to their nature or purpose.
Records show that the weapon shares all of the qualities of Holyar-Den. Permancy, efficency of design, no cultural indicators.
This permanency and functional craftsmanship is a hallmark that identifies all Holyar-Den. They always remain untouched, unblemished, and timeless.
No further direction to Junior Agent indoc regarding methods to identify, flag and recover when appropriate this item. This item conforms to shared Holyar'Den qualities.

Currently, this item is not recovered.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

You jab things with it to make those things bleed or break. It's not complicated.
Show Spoiler

When a person first uses this item as a weapon they will feel a deep pressure and presence in their mind. This presence will always be there when the weapon is used, lurking, waiting. The first time the weapon draws blood, the user must make a will save with negative modifier equal to the number of days they have had the weapon in their possession. If the will save fails the weapon hides its true nature completely from the person using it.
Like all Holyar-Den this weapon has the trapped spirt of an Ancient One within it. In this case, the Ancient One is particularly evil. It has no desire to speak to lesser beings, and would happily see every lesser creature bent to its will and working towards its purpose of destroying the world.

Generic Powers:

They receive the following buffs:
+10 Dam.

Unique Powers:

Glorious Invulnerability.

Breath Ability: The moment the Holyar-den is taken into battle it drains one level of breath from every living creature within a 30m radius. It does not matter who or what the creatures are. This means that any living thing with less then 1 HD automatically Faids, and any creatures will 1 or more HD desaturate, effectively loosing a level.
Of course any creatures that are saturated may remain so depending on their level of saturation.
This breath is directly given to the user of the Holyar-Den as an entropic shield. Each level of breath will negate one attack (one ill fate) that would have injured the possessor of the weapon. To everyone around them, weapons miss, area attacks have no effect even though they were successful, spells miss or ... something. Really, it’s whatever the GM decides is an appropriate cinematic effect.
How much breath in in the 30m radius? That’s up to the GM.
This ability can be reused at any time by the soul trapped within the weapon.
If the user failed the initial will save then the weapon successfully alters the person’s perceptions so they do not notice where the breath is being taken from, and instead see the breath being taken from the general elements of the world around them.
What is really going on? The tenth Holyar-den siphons Ee-Loque .....

Unique Balancing Powers:

Entropy Shift:
Each time a person uses the spear in battle should the soul of the Holyar-Den determine that the user is not acting towards the final and ultimate destruction of the world, the field is reversed. Every attack hits, every form of ill luck small and large occurs during the battle.

“ It is disturbing to research these Holyar-Den. My mind cringes when mention of these ancient weapons is discovered in my work. It is almost a certainty that the strange, unsavory and divergent sourround these weapons.
This Tenth Holyar-Den seems to have the capacity to protect itself from recovery. It has been discovered several times according to the archives. More then most other Holyar-den. And, each of those times ill fate has befallen the person’s who have attempted to return it to the safety of the Vault.

12694 Rs - Solitude Master Varlin-Sol - accidentally killed when a foundation stone crushed their head while defending a village from Abomination taint.
18903 Rs - Engineer Gorm Rel - drowned as his ship was fleeing pirates in their journey across the Sèk Tela Hringhafi.
26738 Rs - Joth of the Red - slipped in the rain to tragically break their neck while arguing in the streets of Skala-Tuq with a fellow Brother one Yerrla of the Red.
33743 Rs - Harm Master Gar-Emerl - fell to their death in a battle with monsters in the mountains of the Barrens.

These are a sample of the known instances of the Tenth Holyar-Den’s appearances in our records. How these historical persons came to possess the Holyar-Den is lost with them. In each case the weapon was lost once more.
I have no further desire to continue researching these weapons. I am afraid that such studies may have adverse impacts on my mind and capacity for reason. I still recommend that continued research be done, but it can be done by someon else. I am going to formally request reassignment. Perhaps, the study of the varied mollusks of the Greater Ocean of the shores of Ti Sti'duram'iti would be nice.
