Chiraki Condition in Ayonerra | World Anvil

Chiraki

Chirakis are living beings altered by Amaar's Breath. Ayonerrans first encountered them in the Chiraki Abyss and noticed the location's mutagenic air. People were unaware of chiraki origins until the Rain of Amaars / Deaf Fall. The colossal beasts spread their mist-like breath, engulfing settlements and transforming the inhabitants into monstrous creatures.

Since then, many believe a slumbering Amaar dwells deep in the Chiraki Abyss, spreading its breath throughout the chasm. Some recount hearing a distant heartbeat growing louder as they traversed further.

Chiraki Transformation and symptoms

Transformation starts in the respiratory system and spreads throughout the body. In humans, it begins in the lungs, followed by the liver, brain and heart. Liver-related symptoms usually show first, jaundice being the earliest sign. Certain potions can undo the mutations, but the change is irreversible once the body is noticeably altered.

Chiraki anatomy

Numerous chiraki flora and fauna developed in the Chiraki Abyss. They are biologically immortal, only dying from severe injuries and starvation. Chirakis can regenerate grave injuries as long as they inhale Abyss’s air. A sure way to kill them is decapitation and crushing either the heart or lungs. Many living in the middle layers exhibit bioluminescence. The air in deeper layers is especially concentrated, empowering chirakis and enhancing their regeneration.

Uses

Hunters use chiraki parts to brew transformation-reversing potions, healing accelerators, energy amplifiers, chemical weapons, luring substances and analgesics. Chiraki firefly lanterns are commonly taken as a light source during the hunts.
Many sell carved bones as trinkets and charms. Chiraki hunting is especially beloved by nobility and royalty, who hire guides and venture into the Abyss.

Human Chirakis

Many hunters fell victim to Abyss’s hostile environment and became chirakis. Some are completely monstrous. Others retain their sense of self. Some do not realize they've transformed, while those who retain self-awareness hunt down people, hide to escape pursuers or show no hostility.

The Twins
The Twins dwell in the pitch-black middle layers. Their enormous bodies are fused together, while a single head is cut vertically in half, each side belonging to each twin. The Blind has two ears and a nose, while the Deaf possesses two eyes and a mouth.

The Deaf enjoys chattering about indecent topics, not paying mind to his twin’s visible irritation. The Blind often throws hunters he’s fond of towards their destination to shorten the travel time. He has unmatched precision, so aside from bruises, the person lands unscathed. Some hunters offer killed chirakis to show goodwill and the Twins rarely refuse.

The Weaver
The Weaver is one of the most elusive chirakis, dwelling in the deepest layers. She isn’t hostile and prefers hiding from hunters. Those who took a glimpse describe a figure with children’s faces fused to her flesh, their small mouths gasping for air without uttering a sound. She walks on spider-like legs and leaves a cobweb behind, halting any pursuer.
The Weaver carries a toddler and decimates anyone trying to harm him.

Acacia
Only the Legendary Hunters have encountered Acacia and survived. They speak of a lanky armoured creature, using fallen opponents’ weapons to duel anyone reaching the thirteenth layer. Branches with vivid yellow flowers adorn his back. Some hunters describe Acacia carving intricate reliefs depicting tales from bygone eras. He rarely speaks, showing annoyance when facing the opponents.

Even though many Legendary Hunters have gloated about killing Acacia, he still awaits new opponents. Those who tried describing what he protects were taken by the Curse and murdered by crazed listeners.
