Golgottl (gohl-goht-l)
The island province of Golgottl is part of the newly-formed Everyn Federation, thanks to a dubious deal struck by its leader and the Emperor of the federation. Prior to the Everyn War, the town had maintained staunch independence and neutrality in all wars and preferred not to get involved in affairs on the continent. Many wish this would have continued and are actively seeking ways to back out of the Federation without facing a military invasion.
The island is situated off the eastern coast of Ayndrinor, where the Bay of Brandis meets the Midor Sea. It has traditionally had trading ties with Mont Brandis on the continent and had stayed relatively arms-length from the militaristic Dumein Keep, though recent events have made the closer neighbors to the northwest reluctant friends.
The most prominent feature of the island, which can be seen for miles around in the ocean, is its massive tower that houses one of the world's leading universities. Over time, a town sprung up around the university tower, and now Tor Golgottli is a somewhat bustling settlement, though it is mostly self-sufficient and resembles what we might consider a commune. The university was the only thing on the island for many centuries until it outgrew the space in the tower - impossible though that seemed for many centuries - and some of its students and faculty constructed residences around the central building.
Tor Golgottli is considered one of - if not the - leading universities in the world, with students and faculty from every different walk of life, and even some from other worlds or planes. Visiting the island gives one a chance to see many things they have never seen before and experience magic like few other places in the world could provide. Some ordinary matters of city maintenance are attended by younger students in training, practicing their magic by helping repair roads or nurture plants in the town's parks. The farmers and other food producers of the island see their goods consumed by their neighbors and community members daily, and in return they get arcane help with their agricultural practice and bringing goods to market.
