Owyn Sullivyn

The current Premier of the renowned academy at Tor Golgottli, Owyn is most known for giving up the university's independence to join the Everyn Federation. It is a decision many of his fellow scholars abhor and believe it goes against all precedent and good conscience in the university's interests, leading many to speculate Owyn may have been paid by the Federation to join their nation.   Before he was embroiled in this controversy, Owyn had served as Premier for 11 years, taking the position in 1472 2A after the death of the previous Premier who was beloved for having reorganized the university into its current system of colleges, deans, and vice premiers.   Owyn first began his studies at Tor Golgottli when he was a teen, enrolling in 1436 2A, after being discovered in his hometown of Ravniy by a traveling scholar and convinced to pursue magical education. He did not choose a specialization for almost a decade - not an anomaly for mages but still a significant period of general study - but eventually settled on the college of Transmutation. Once declaring this specialization, Owyn set his sights on becoming one of the most renowned transmuters in the world. He sought a mentor in the Dean of the college and made it his mission to learn everything that dean knew and then some. When that Dean passed away from old age, Owyn was the sure bet to be named his replacement, and so it was.   Owyn was Dean of the College of Transmutation for a grand total of five years before the Premier died and the deans met to elect a new leader. Despite his young age and relatively late blooming talent, Owyn had the charisma to win over enough of his colleagues to be elected. He became the university's youngest human leader on record.   Nothing of note happened in Owyn's tenure until the Everyn War broke out. The Deans and Vice Premiers kept a close eye on proceedings and quietly increased Golgottl's defenses in case of an eventual invasion. Since the academy had always been independent, they had no reason to believe the Emperor was seeking to annex their island. As the war progressed, they all watched the Dumein Dominion steamroll its neighbors and bring them into their fledgling nation one by one, some peacefully by mutual treaty and others by total decimation of population and territory. The Golgottliers began to worry that the Emperor might set his sights eastward, looking to add the university's sterling reputation to his new nation.   There was no notice or indication among the academy's leadership that Owyn was even in talks with the Federation before he suddenly proclaimed the university had joined the new nation and would be assisting them with rebuilding and training more mages further afield than the island. To say the Deans and other leaders felt betrayed is an understatement, and Owyn has had to hire private security to ensure his safety in the years since this decision. Many scholars at Golgottl are still unhappy with the alliance, especially as the Federation seems to be using university-trained mages to bolster their military might. Thankfully for Owyn - though not for the university - there is no clause for removing a Premier who does not wish to step down, so his job and the treaty are secure as long as he can stay alive.
