Siege of Battleaxe Ridge Military Conflict in Avendora | World Anvil

Siege of Battleaxe Ridge

the Siege of Battleaxe Ridge was a battle fought during the Kadar Sortie Tykos which was a Kadar invasion of the planet during the Walren-Kadar wars.

The Conflict

Prelude

During the Last days of the Walren-Kadar wars, a small Kadar Cabal fleet under High Priest Vakaran Drodge, appeared over the former Kadar world of Tykos. this fleet had intended to invade the planet but the fleet was far too small to even break through the blockade. nevertheless they attacked and the fleet was decimated in orbit. however, more than 300,000 Kadar managed to survive withing crashed warships or via escaping on dropships and managed to somewhat consolidate. they had no armored vehicles and very little artillery but they still managed to surround a Walren force on and around a hight known as Battleaxe ridge.

Deployment

Soon after the Walren forces dug in on Battleaxe Ridge, the Kadar army dug siegeworks around the area. they had only one battery of Artillery which was placed behind the Devils run battlefield. the Walren forces were also dug in deep with lots of Artillery and even tank support, though the Dense jungle limited the use of this.

Battlefield

The battlefield consisted of mostly Dense jungle and hills with many rivers, streams, and lakes within. there were also a number of small villages in the area. however the worst part of the battle was the Thick swamps and orange mud of the Siegeworks.

Conditions

conditions for the men on the ground were rough at best. the overwhelming heat and humidity were unbearable even for the Kai HeadHunters within the army. and the unyielding rain and insects spread much disease and general filth and annoyance.

The Engagement

At first the fight was mostly a collection of small skirmishes as groups of regrouping Kadar Cabal soldiers ran into patrols of Kai HeadHunters. however once the Kadar force had consolidated several larger engagements were fought and the Kadar forces were able to push the Retreating Walren army onto the Ridge where they dug in in typical Walren fashion and the Kadar followed suit. after a few months of mostly sniper action a small Walren sortie managed to poke a hole in the Kadar line large enough to cause the front line to fall back to to chaos and bad communication. and the Walren forces were able to turn the momentum to their favor. the largest engagement of this pushback occurred was in the Morskar Swamps just behind the Gooseneck where more than 8,000, soldiers clash in the middle of the night with relatively no night vision and in mostly hand to hand combat in knee deep muck and water. eventually the remaining 1000 or so Kadar troopers were pushed back into one small ravine known as "the Scar" where they were quite brutally gunned down in their sleep by units of C Coy. 3467th Nyxians. and with that ended the battle.

Outcome

limited push back on Kadar offensive.

Aftermath

none.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The battle in hardly remembered but by those who were there and even then it is remembered as quite boring for most of the men.
