NDCA (Nano Drop Composite Armor)

NDCA is a technology invented by the Saurian Techniczar that utilizers layers of composited micro materials including metals, ceramics, crystals, and fabrics. Most Saurian military vehicles now utilize this type of defense, with varying thickness based on vehicle capability and weight requirements. This armor is sometimes overlayed with reactive armor like A440R/H-V12 Dead End Reactive Armor and/or ablative EHLRHP to counteract energy based weapons. This external secondary armor is affixed via built in attachment points on sections most likely to be hit and is engineered to shear off if stuck with physical projectiles without causing more damage to underlying material. This additional plates shattering and ablating off the vehicle when struck is often mistaken for much more serious damage due to its spectacular appearance, which can serve to additionally trick the enemy into thinking they have disabled a Saurian tank when they have done no damage at all. The NDCA armor itself takes various forms and compositions, but the most common versions on tanks are made with the first layer, the one exposed to the external environment, being a very hard and fairly thick layer of metal, followed immediately by micro engineered ceramic materials and a thinner and softer metal sheet. Behind that are a myriad of prince Rupert’s drops made meticulously from melted Syndalinn with all of the tails melted up to the head of the drop to not compromise structural integrity. The drops are all arrayed at the exact same angle to the metal over them and through complicated science are extremely difficult to shatter and thus are very effective at stopping anything that makes it through the out metal layers. Each drop fits perfectly into a divot in the heat and fireproof sheet behind it which also serves to shield the crew and important components from fire and the effects of HEAT type rounds. The last layer of armor consists of a thick, chemical coated, Kevlar-like material designed to dissipate kinetic energy, catch any broken up fragments that make it through the hard armor, and (thanks to special chemical coatings) totally block chemical weapons and very high amounts of radiation. The only other component is the backplate which is bolted on as a thin skin to the interior of the vehicle.
