The Four-Star

What is that symbol you have? I've seen it around, but I don't know what it is.
A fairly common symbol within Avani society, the Four-star represents many things. It represents light, the night sky, Fortune-domain Magic, or happiness. However, for some it is more than that. For some, it is a sign of their brotherhood, of the beliefs they share that are rejected by society. For those who carry the sigil at all times, it is a sign that they are among The Watchful and believe the legend of The Twelve Paragons.

Significance

For those who are among the Watchful, the signet primarily symbolizes that the wearer does not believe in the light-dark dichotomy of Magic pushed by the Order of light and accepted by most of society. Each of the four prongs represent the four major domains of magic: Light, Darkness, Order, and Chaos. From there it is implied that the wearer also believes in the other eight domains and recognizes that magic is not quite as simple as some types being good and others being evil.   Taken to its logical conclusion, the belief in the twelve domains also leads to believing in the legend of The Twelve Paragons, and by extension The Five Races. This evolution in the symbolism of the Four-star is what eventually led to its adoption by The Watchful as a way for adherents to identify each other. Having this symbol on hand can get you into secret meetings, reveal hideouts from the authorities, open supply caches, and find you allies among strangers.   It also holds some significance among the ranks of the Undead; they have to. When most of the world believes that their kind are intrinsically problematic or outright evil, this belief system is one of the few against the grain.
