Session 21: Dust to Dust

General Summary

Face to face with some kind of demon summoned by the burning black fire of the Court Mage of A'mashara, William Grimhound, Loanedth , Nil-enor Ulkas and Gul'Khaan prepare to do battle. U'la Grimhound takes cover as the mage summons a protective barrier, and William charges the demon.
Taking cover behind a pillar, Loanedth looses an arrow that manages to pierce the veil of the mage, while Nil-enor summons the divine light of Auna to alight the demon. Gul-khaan strikes the mage with eldritch lightning. But the demon vanishes into thin air, leaving William and Loanedth to finish off the mage. But the demon was never truely gone; it reemerges and hits Gul'khaan with a bevvy of reckless attacks that quickly puts the warlock under. Before it has the chance to finish him, William steps in, and knocks the beast back with a powerful swing of Mephiles. Loanedth shoots it again, and Nil-enor provides an prayer of healing for the group, which returns Gul to consciousness. When the demon attempts again to turn invisible, Gul stops it with a counterspell, leaving it exposed. William slashes a great wound in its chest, and the beast is destroyed when Loanedth pierces its skull. With a few final words in Abyssal, the demons form decomposes into that of Ve'dek. Once roused, she summons her fiery spirit, and sends it off to trigger the gunpowder. Loanedth finds some gold on the corpse of the mage, and most notably, a fragment of mysterious Black Stone.
Running through the sewers alongside swarms of fleeing rats, the group surfaces atop the Tower of Light, and witnesses the end of this long and painful stage of A'masharan history, as the Lord's keep explodes. With celebrations, and riotous mobs in the street, the group heads to Ve'dek's home to rest. Ve'dek tells the group that this is the begining, an that the Cymus'kael will continue to be a problem. But she hopes that a democratic society will proliferate.
In the morning, the group is concerned about how they will return to Muli, when who should come driving down the street shouting names but Gordon, who had driven from the nearby village after seeing and hearing the explosion. William, Gul, Nil-enor, U'la and Ve'dek decide to get breakfast at a nearby restaurant, while Loanedth chats with Gordon, who has a learned a little on how to read.
As Nil-enor recites the virtues of the old gods to Gul'khaan, William discuss the past, and the future. With Wynra gone, William discusses two possiblities for them together: they travel to Muli, and U'la learns to become an adventurer along the way, or they go together to settle down with William's parents, William retiring from his dangerous career. U'la eventually settles, and with goodbyes to Ve'dek, William, U'la, Loanedth, Nil-enor, Gul'khaan and Gordon begin the journey back to Muli.
Upon their arrival, they discover a bustling Guildhall of the Guild of Adventurers, and chatting with Zat and her Gelatinous Cube, discover that the group have unintentionally fulfilled a lucrative contract. Proving their recent visit to A'mashara, Lupro Slacktongue rewards them for their work.
Nil-enor takes the fragment of the Black Stone to Xandeyr, who hushes him and takes him to a secret chamber. Placing an ornate key into the locked door to his office, the two enter a seemingly ordinary wooden shack, no windows but plenty of books, workstations and tools, where Nil-enor hesitantly shows Xandeyr the fragment. He reveals the immence power held within these stone, and unveils that each fragment is tied to one of six of the old gods. The one found in the Feywild belonged to Erlos, and the one recently aquired in A'mashara belonged to Ahmjir. Xandeyr also tells Nil-enor that it is not enough to simply find the fragments of the stone: they must also find the gods, in their Guardian form. He states he may know where one is.
