Meicor

Meicor, often called the Grand City of Meicor, or simply just the Grand City, is a major trading port city located on the southern tip of the Infas Peninsula. Its wealth and power led the city-state to grow into a flourishing maritime republic centered around the city. It is currently led by its Savore Aristo la Polla, who gained power in a violent coup.

Description

The city is built around the mouth of the Forsets Strait, a narrow channel that connects the Guercian Bay with Lake Onocrot. The strait itself is rocky and mountainous, being an extension of the nearby Katalian Mountain range. The city is ringed by large stone walls that extend out into the bay. A series of towers built into the bay make up a large chain gate that can be raised to prevent a naval incursion.

Unsleeping Quay

The Unsleeping Quay is home to the main docks of the city, so named due to the constant stream of traders passing in and out of the port. Running along the mile-long string of piers and jetties on the west side of the Forsets are a myriad cranes and warehouses, as well as a large number of taverns and places of cheap entertainment. The Unsleeping Quay is patrolled very heavily by the Spadatore of House Quaranto.
  • The Half-Full Tankard: A small tavern near the southernmost area of the docks which is run by a female halfling named Corrine
  • The Sunken Dragon Inn: A large inn run by an amiable, overweight human named Denali alongside his wife Delfina.
  • Courier's Office: An Eloqui-sanctioned post office in the northern section of the Quay, part of the Pan-Continental Courier Express

East Bend

The East Bend is an area of Meicor where many of the poorer and common folk live. It is administered by House Alu, the smallest and least powerful of the 12 houses.
  • Strapping Jetty: A smaller and less-patrolled set of docks. Due to being less organized than the Unsleeping Quay it is popular among those wishing to keep a low profile.

Martial Walk

The Martial Walk District is the home of the Blade Hall, and as such many armorers and blacksmiths have popped up around it.
  • Blade Hall: A wooden keep and great hall which served as the headquarters of the Katalian Company. It was heavily damaged during Aristo la Polla's coup.
  • Iarstina's Anvil: A small smithy run by a grumpy female dwarf named Iarstina Ironhand.
  • Sleeping Flagon: A rowdy tavern popular among would-be adventurers and mercenaries.

Hexacourt

At the heart of Meicor is the Hexacourt, a large, six-sided town center which contains a massive open-air market and is ringed by shops and administrative buildings.
  • Republican Palace: The main administrative building of Meicor. It is from here that the Savore holds court.
  • Ricci Central Trust: The headquarters of House Ricci's international banking syndicate.
  • Redfall's Roadhouse: A three-story upper-class lounge run by a kindly female woman named Irena Redfall. On the payroll is a large goliath bouncer named Stefan.

Lake Onocrot

Lake Onocrot is a large lake on the northern outskirts of the city's boundaries. While outside the walls it is still considered part of the city proper. Many farms have popped up around it.
  • Onocrot Keep: A large stone fortress built on a small island roughly fifty feet into the lake. It is a stronghold of House Zullo, and it garrison commander is a tall dwarf named Tosca Liota. The keep possesses an anti-magic field made possible by the Zullos' recent discovery of arcaltium within their mines and as such for a time Hildonian Crownmage Siegmar Umarov was held prisoner here.
  • Wizard's Tower Breweries: A large and popular brewery near the lake. It was formerly owned by Lindor Glowkindle before its acquisition by Grom and Ra'zon. It was built over the rumored location of an ancient wizard's tower once owned by Kasius Darkshround. Later, those rumors would prove to be true, and a teleportation circle was uncovered below the basement.
  • Burning Rock: An island in the center of the city upon which the city's trash is burned weekly.

Katalian Foothills

The Katalian Mountain Range begins to sharply rise a quarter-mile northwest of the city.
  • Zullo Salt Mines: A recent breakthrough in this large salt mine has revealed a hidden cavern containing raw arcaltium, which was protected by a strange aberrant creature until it was destroyed by Grom and Ra'zon. The mine's guard captain is an affable human man named Umberto Sollini.
  • Ricci Central Trust: The headquarters of House Ricci's international banking syndicate.

History

During Augustin's Rebellion, a large Arideian ship carrying roughly two hundred rebel prisoners of war was waylaid by sea bandits from the Argendives. Much to the prisoners' surprise, the bandits took pity on them and escorted the newly-liberated fighters to a hidden location that they operated out of. The influx of residents quickly transformed the pirate base into a full-fledged town which remained in relative obscurity for nearly a century. However, the simultaneous discovery of salt and blackrock in the nearby mountains soon led to an influx of trade and the city rapidly transformed into a commercial and cultural hub.   Over time the city began to expand its sphere of influence over much of the Infas Peninsula and into the Achinad Sea, soon establishing the Serene Republic of Meicor. In 1855, Judge Aristo la Polla led a coup d'etat against the ruling Savore Cirillo Ricci in protest of his acquiescence to the Eloqui Order. The coup left la Polla as the new Savore and wiped out the mercenary Katalian Company.
