Augustin's Rebellion

In 1420, Augustin became the head of House Reisenwulf after the passing of his father. Records are unclear how he came by the knowledge, but later that year he became aware of the construction of a second arcaltium obelisk beneath the nearby fortress of the Rotterhorn, larger and more powerful than the first. Over the next few months, he held secret conclaves with other local lords, all of whom were similarly angered with the Arideian Empire after the Scouring of the Westfarm. At some point the plan was made to storm the Rotterhorn before the arcaltium obelisk could be completed, and to force the Arideian mages to repurpose the obelisk into a weapon that could be used against the empire. In early 1421 the rebel army assembled and marched on the Rotterhorn, suffering heavy losses but ultimately taking the citadel. The rebels discovered that the obelisk was mere weeks away from completion. Several mages were captured during the battle, and were imprisoned until they agreed under pain of death to help the rebels.

During this time, word began to spread of the uprising. Many lords took up arms and marched to the Rotterhorn to join the resistance. Some, however, chose to stay loyal to the crown, and skirmishes began erupting throughout the Reisenland. By the time news of the rebellion reached the Emperor, the entire region was embroiled in open war as the resistance began to spread to other parts of the empire. Recognizing the threat that the kalta obelisk posed in the hands of the rebels, Caelykolos hastily assembled his army and began marching towards the Reisenland.

By this time, Augustin's rebels had managed to convince the captured mages to complete work on the obelisk. It was decided that the obelisk would be used to make magic vanish completely from the continent, rendering the Arideian's primary weapons null and void. The enchantments took three days, and was completed shortly before the Arideian army arrived before the Rotterhorn. The ensuing spell echoed across the continent as a blinding flash of violet light erupted from the citadel.
