Taking a Ship

Even pirates have their traditions

"Are you ready boy?"   "Yes."   "Then go, lead us and take a ship, as is your birthright."
The pirates of Cateron IX have a coming of age ritual, common for new leaders or important figures in their society. It involves the person coming of age taking charge of a crew, and capturing a foreign ship. If they are successful, it cements that persons place among the pirates.   There has been many different ways this ritual has been performed, most often involving a small to medium sized ship without many ways to protect itself. Those among the pirates who wish for their names to be remembered may instead opt for the much for difficult job of capturing a military vessel. Federation Navy ships are often considered the hardest, and therefore most rewarding, of all ships to capture, with Jeraci Navy ships being considered slightly easier targets, yet still difficult enough to warrant a great celebration.   While popularised, and heavily used by the pirates of Cateron IX, often groups use similar methods of choosing new leaders. Blaze's Syndicate and its leader, "Blaze" use the very same method to choose new lieutenants and Blaze himself became known as a young man for capturing the Federation Navy cruiser, FNV Oriean.   Despite some of the most infamous pirates succeeding in this task, more often than not the pirates are unsuccessful when taking a vessel.
