Thamar

Originally established by the eldest son of King Arakiss, Thamar is currently a monarchy in name alone. The current monarch, King Ordane II, is only a young boy of 13, and is unable to properly rule for another few years. Instead, his father’s closest friend, Sir Dandrik Greypine, serves as the regent. Religion is a central part of Thamarian society, which boasts some of the largest temples in all of Xorik , especially in the capital city of Riverhold. As a consequence, Thamarians generally distrust arcane magic. Any arcane practitioner must be registered with the The Order, a powerful organization that monitors and controls arcane magic. Many people in Thamar see the mysterious destruction of Marish as divine punishment for Marish’s love of the arcane. In the same vein, Warforged are mistrusted and discriminated against in Thamar despite the nation creating thousands during The Great War.

Government

After the death of King Ordane during the Great War, the crown was passed to his young son, Ordane II. The former king's closest friend, Sir Dandrik Greypine, serves as the regent for now until the boy king is a few years older.

Riverhold

The capital of Thamar, Riverhold is famous for being built over the the Crossroads, the name for the lake joined by five rivers. The majority of Riverhold is built on top of the water on small islands or structures. There are a number of farms outside the city in the surrounding area called the Outlands. Although there are plenty of walkways and bridges throughout the city, a popular form of travel is via ferries or small gondolas as crossing by water is often faster than finding the nearest bridge.

City Layout

  • Grand: The central island is the oldest and most popular borough of the city where Thamos Castle is located and the headquarter of the Order, Sanctuary, is nearby too.
  • Goldenleaf: Supposedly blessed by the gods, the northern island is famous for trees with golden colored leaves. Many of the cities' grandest temples are located there:
  • Yannor: The western island named after ancient King Balorn's daughter, this island features the city's only cemetery. However, only important or rich people are buried there nowadays as there isn't enough space for everyone. Most people are put onto a ship and sent down river.
  • Seneca: The eastern island is named after a long dead queen, but it is a popular residential area and home to the Rising Sun Library and Seneca University
  • Haven: The southern island suffered heavy casualties during the Great War. As such, the area is mostly slums but is in a process of rebuilding
