The Order
Created after Thamar's founding nearly a century ago, the Order monitors and controls all arcane magic within Thamar. The religious organization believes arcane magic can be a corrupting influence that pushes its practitioners towards an obsession with power. Any arcane magic user in Thamar must be registered with the Order or be hunted down. Any child born with a talent for the arcane is taken by the Order to study magic responsibility and become an Order Mage. The Templars of the Order protect the organization’s facilities and bring rogue mages to face justice. Lastly, Inquisitors of the Order openly serve as investigators and administrators, but also secretly operate as spies or assassins. After the mysterious destruction of Marish, a former haven of the arcane, the Order has begun growing bolder and expanding their reach outside of Thamar. Any dangerous magical item or person is brought to Sanctuary, the headquarters of the Order in the capital of Thamr, Riverhold.
For Player Characters:
The Order is always looking for devout and driven agents to help enforce its rules on arcane magic. The Cataclysm showed to the world the danger of unchecked magic, and the Order refuses to let anything like that happen again.
