The Oculum

The Hall of the Archmage stands at the very center of Evergreen, reaching higher than any other building in the city. The base of the building is made of smooth, red stone cut from the Red Spikes. It provides a solid foundation for the crystalline spire that reaches up from within. About 150 meters above the ground the spire widens into the offices of the Archmage. This is where the council of mages convenes to discuss matters of the city.

Purpose / Function

The Oculum serves as the main clerical office for the city. Commoners visit the bottom floors, often called the Crimson Halls, to apply for building permits, request legal aid, and other administrative errands. The Crimson halls also supply help for those seeking to get in contact with the different branches of the academies. Behind closed doors, the clerks of the Oculum work with everything from city-planning to trade-agreements and tax-collection.
The top, The Crystal Eye, of the Oculum houses the office of the Archmage and the members of the Confederacy. Each member has their own office in the building, yet it is rare for them to spend more time there than they need to. The Crystal Eye also has a section exclusive to the First and Vigilant Order.

Alterations

To the eyes of most people, the Oculum stands as an unchanging hallmark of the glory of Evergreen. For those working in The Crimson Halls, this perception is quickly shattered. For although no changes are done to the exterior of the building, there is an almost constant re-organization of the inside. Offices are moved to better facilitate their purpose, while others are given more or less space depending on the current needs of the city. The different academies all want their interests to be prioritized and so the lay of the Halls shift whenever there is a sway in power. Unknown to the rulers of the city there has been an unofficial group created whose sole purpose is to handle these changes.
