The Black Bramble

I finally made it to the edge of the Black Bramble Swamp . If the Idan is beautiful, inviting, and mesmerizing this terrible mass is the precise opposite. It smells like rotting death; there's a constant miasma wafting towards me assailing my nose! And it's dark. It's as though the plants hate for anything below their tendrils to enjoy the light! And the thorns - how utterly inhospitable. I really must find a way inside...
— Loremaster Hanula
A wide expanse of coiling tendrils, some as thick as tree trunks, keeps most large creatures out of this territory. Instead, it is a haven for insects, water creatures, birds, and plants that do not require much in the way of sunlight. The Bramble could be more hospitable for Homon if it were not for the incredible poison in its thorns, sap, leaves, flowers, and fruit.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The heart of the Bramble is completely unknown. All that can be seen are its thick, woody tendrils which are covered in areoles from which shoot 6-12 spines of various lengths. Some spines are as long as 5 inches. The bark of the bramble is marbled black to deep violet and is bumpy to the touch.   In the spring, pale blue and green flowers bloom from the areoles and produce yellowish orange fruits with tough and spiny skin. After the fruit drops, new spines will form from the areoles.   The only leaves on the Bramble are in the canopy, some 200ft above the ground . The leaves are broad and palmate. They are dark green and blade shaped.

Ecology and Habitats

The Black Bramble Swamp  is humid and hot. Since its mostly made up of mangroves, marshes and flatwoods. Towards the boundaries of its territory the land grows too firm for more the bramble to expand.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The leaves in the thick canopy are used to photosynthesize year round, however, additional nutrients can be gained from the soils from decomposing plant and animal material.
