Barran Timur

Barran is a Jacul teenager that developed natural magical ability in his earliest years. With the exception of his mother, he was the only one in his whole nest that held such abilities. But opposite to his mother Barran wanted to learn to wield his abilities.

Personal History

He decided to go to the magical ability in Alt'Ena which was the nearest bigger city to his nest. His parents were not thrilled but Jacul tradition dictated that once a Jacul was overcome with Wanderlust they are not to be stopped. This even though he was only 11 years old at the time. His nest came together and collected funds as well as forged a ring for him, as is Jacul tradition. With that and connection of the elder of the nest he was able to travel to Alt'Ena and was immediately enrolled into the magical academy.   Being alien to the city culture, Barran soon turned out to be a loner. Not by choice. Only one year later he got to know Cartan Tigres due to his strong interest into Daimon Studies and Cartans ability to summon different beings and remember rituals. They soon became good friends, and soon thereafter best friends.   Barran used at first the ring his nest forged him as a magical talisman for spell casting. It made him feel secure. But his talent overtook the simple metal of the ring. Once during testing of a particular high level spell, fire ball, the ring broke. Barran was devastated by this but hid his feelings in order to avoid bullying due to what he thought were strange and foreign traditions of his folks.   It took him months to tumbkle through school life without a talisman until Cartan asked him outright if he would like a familiar. Barran thought for a few seconds and agreed on the condition that he could use the broken ring as the fundament of his familiar. Cartan did not know why but he knew that the ring was significant to Barran so he agreed. It took him a while to modify the familiar ritual to include the ring but he succeeded.   At the same time Cartan got the idea to pull a pracitcal joke for his friend. Normally familiars choose their own form. their are Spirit s that are bound to a physical body. In exchange for the physical form and being taken care of they help their spell caster in all types of manners. It is like a contract that is bound by the soul. But Cartan in his preparation seeked out a spirit that would be willing take on the form of a cat. The young catfolk found it to be incredible funny to give his friend, who was related to rafolks, a cat like familiar.   The ritual finished, and Barran's familiar Kratzer was born. Barran immeditately knew what Cartan did. He chuckled and thanked Cartan even more than he himself expected. Kratzer was based on the ring he got from his home village and had the form that reminded him of his best friend.   Later on he joine Professor Talamund in his studies. Both being fascinated with Daimons they got along rather well as student and mentor. Due to Barran's acitivity Cartan would soon join them as a kind of mini research group helping the Professor with various projects in his later years.   It was during one of these projects that all three went to an expedition into the Jerulian Jungle to research the Fog Canyon. This is where they met The Strangers. Barran was first friendly despite the strange circumstances where they met (they included the unconscious Professor in their company). But when he found out that they apparently fought against a higher Daimon, and not only survived but lethally wounded the Daimon. After this confrontation, Barran for the first time in his life got scared for his life. He did not knwo the strangersm altough they seemed nice, they talked about a lot of strange things and seemingly did not know any of the common languages. He decided to ask Cartan to flee the group with the Professor. Hoping their knowledge of the jungle would give them an advantage until they reach Nipan, the nearest village and trading hub.   In Nipan they talked to Cartan's grandmother, where it turned out that the group they met apparently were made up of humans. Barran only knew from humans in folklore stories, and specualted that they were a strange type of Daimon. But his beliefe got changed fast. He regretted his choice of leaving them alone, since it turned out that they were actually lost and just trying to help the Professor. Then when The Strangers finally arrived at Nipan, he was really relived but to ashamed to confront them. Though, he promised that he would make up for it later on..   During their trip to Alt'Ena, the caravan was attacked by members of The Void. When the fight turned out around, the leader, a mage, tried to flee by levitating to the cliff upper side. Barran was able to use Force Barrage/Magic Missile to give her (Saya Van) the final blow. Her lifeless body afterwards fell to the ground with a big cracking of her bones and shell. While triumphant in the moment, this event still haunts Barran and gives him now regular nightmares and sleepless night. While this apparently results in better grades (nothing more to do than study at night), his sanity has suffered. As a result he has become more erratic and impulsive.   After the Events of Arrival of the Strangers (Season 1 - Arvion the new World), Barran celebrated his 16th birthday.
