A Community On the Edge
Norstrolm is a small, predominantly human community located on the outskirts of the Dwarven Kingdom in the foothills of the
Draak'thor Massiff at the edge of the
Whispering Plains. As a community, it does well as its position makes it an ideal jumping off point for those merchants who seek to skirt orcish territory, and also those who wish to prepare before they dive in and barrel through the heart of the beast, so to say.
The town does a thriving business providing a last opportunity for replenishing supplies and providing experienced guides who have traversed the plains to travelers. The orcs, for their part tend to leave Norstrolm alone. The
Stone Throne has positioned a strong militia force in the community complete with fortified walls and a well equipped arsenal and trained troops. Even orcs know not to leave fortifications behind you as you make military advances, so the local fortificaions offer a significant advanced warning should the orcs decide to get aggressive and enter the mountains the dwarves control.
But beyond that, some orc Khans have developed a begrudging respect for the citizens of this frontier town, and have found the presence of the commercial enterprises here useful for getting goods and services from the outsiders. Thus it is not unusual to see individual orcs in town to trade, though never in parties of any size. The townspeople are familiar with the nearby tribe members who come - others are treated with extreme caution as orcs are often extremely dangerous and outmass a human by several times.
The town does well enough. The population numbers two hundred and fourty seven including Evelyn Lynn Striker who was born last week. Most of the folks around here are farmers or trappers or traders. The militia forms a solid financial backbone for the community in the winter when there isn't much travel by the merchants. In the spring and summer the town population swells with merchants and with guides and
Zol Dak looking to pick up work with the merchant caravans.
Education for the children of the town is taken care of by the sisters at the
The Temple of Sinhala. Times for classes are arranged around planting and harvest schedules.
