Whispering Plains

A Place of Legend

Prominent in the annals of orcish history, the Whispering Plains, or "home" as the orcs call it, is a land shrouded in mystery and drenched in blood. Here, in a space devoid of distinguishing geographic features, where "here" is is a matter of pure speculation and oceans of waist high grass provide perfect cover for enemies and predators alike, the orcs have lived and died since the Voices called to the peoples.   Blasted with scorching heat prior to the settlement of the The War of Light and Dark by Jiisho and the All Father, the Whispering Plains barely supported life, and drove the orcs to practice a nomadic lifestyle, one they have never abandoned. During this period the called races referred to the Whispering Plains as "the Orcish Wasteland". No other name was needed.

Fields of Blood

The Whispering Plains was the site of the bloodiest war in the history of Arrhynsia. During the War of Blood, the orcish tribes slew each other in a bid to decide who would become the ruler and god of the orcs. The Whispering Plains today is still covered with the remains of orcish warriors.   Eventually, the War of Blood ended with a whimper as a small remnant of a once mighty race attempted to repopulate the endless plains. In this dark time, Yulasta rose by acclaim and consensus to become the orcish goddess of hearth and home, a strange patroness for such a fierce warlike people.

In Modern Times

Today, the Whispering Plains are a wildland, populated by the even wilder orcs who wander upon it. The Eternal Conflict - the ghostly remnant of the War of Blood still rages, bending the verdant grass that thickly covers the endless expanse without the assistance of wind or weather. Shamans and necromancers come to inquire of the great leaders of old, who counsel bravery, pride and dedication to victory to those who would listen. There are few named places on the Whispering Plains, but the orcs have created a single city they call Arynn, located where Jiisho planted Elysium the World Tree. This city is not so much a city, as a permanent encampment, organized by tribes, with open markets, emplaced sanitary systems, and minimal meeting and counsel chambers. It is the residence of Yulasta, who tends the World Tree, and spends her days weaving the hair thin fibers it provides into magical spells for some mysterious end.   And as is ever the story on this featureless plain, it is war, The Lost War that again disturbs her restless sleep.
