Trespin's Smithy
Stranger in a Strange Land
Trespin's Smithy is a noisy place, filled with the sounds of hammers and bellows and animals bleating and bellowing and generally complaining as animals do about the frightening environmnet and the treatment they receive at the hands of whatever human happens to be closest to them at the moment. Noise aside though, Trespin's runs like a well-oiled clock. The animals for all their complaining, shut up immediately when the master smith approaches them and speaks softly in a lyrical sing-song voice. It's almost as though they understand him - but realistically it's more that he understands them. Which is a very fortunate thing indeed. Trespin isn't your normal human or even dwarven smith. He's a renegade elf or so the rumors say - and fair enough - it's obvious with the ears and all. He's old, even for an elf, and though he's as strong as any 30 year olf human, his greying hair and wrinkled skin reveals that he's closer to his death day than his birth day. Not that you'd notice when it comes to cutting a deal with him for those horses you need shoed by sunset so you can get on the road tommorrow at first light. You see the elven blood when he talks to the animals too. It's more than farrier skills with the horses, he does all the veterinary work in town. Farm animals or spoiled lap dogs, he sees them all and cures most of them of what ails them. In summer he's busy from surise to sunset and sometimes later than that - particularly when lambing comes around. Sheep can never get timing right so a body can get a good night's rest. But the most surprising thing about Trespin is the quality of his weapons and the quickness with which he can fix mail. They say that he was once a smith for the Brotherhood of The Green Lady and served in the field army when he was young, which would explain how he acquired those skills. Being able to put a knight or troop back on the field quickly could mean the difference between victory or death. Trespin is out and about near the Ironhoof Stables. That's a fine place too if you're looking for new horses or beef on the hoof.
