An Honorable Past
Mastersmith Krannik resides in
Portsend in the North end of the
Draak'thor Massiff. He is the proprietor of the local smithy, the
Portsend Arms. Having served his apprenticeship in
Uftlon under the legendary Grandmaster Strongarm IronForge in his youth and earning his master smith credentials, Krannik took his skills to the high seas, serving honorably as weaponsmith and armsmaster to the privateering fleet operated by Council Member Bystran CragHaven and later by his daughter and successor to the Council, Ancrette CragHaven.
The High Seas
Mastersmith Krannik served in the fleet on the "Ambivalence" and was noted for his exceptional enthusiasm, vigor, and notable skill in hand to hand combat. He was known to abandon his station to engage the enemy during the heat of battle. In one case, it was rumored that he snuck off the Ambivalence in the tail end of a boarding party onto the Profitable in order to collect a gaming debt with a sailor he recognized when they came about prior to boarding. Such was his enthusiasm, that on several occasions, the Captain of the Ambivalence, John Forthwight, had him chained to his station to keep him from endangering himself and thereby the entire crew and fleet, as by this time he was in charge of training amateur and journeyman smiths and governing all field repair of arms and tools used by the deployed fleet.
A Devastating Transition
When a severe injury during military action ended Krannik's shipboard career, the CragHaven clan retired him from active fleet duty, but continued to use his services in a consulting and shore based capacity for several years. Eventually, he decided to move to Portsend and open the Portsend Arms, where he offers typical smithy services to the local community in addition to maintaining lucrative arms production contracts with the CragHaven fleet and the Stone Throne.
A Respected Member of the Community
Krannik enjoys brown ale and rum based drinks. He has been propositioned by two gentle dwarven maids, but has declined to marry on account of his injuries suffered while in service to his country. He is a strong man with very strong opinions, and views outsiders and non-dwarven races with severe skepticism. Krannik employees eight locals in his work at the Portsend Arms including a highly trained journeyman farrier Bjorn SoundSayer who also helps manage the apprentices and is his current journeyman in weaponsmithing. Bjorn came to the Portsend Arms seven years ago, replacing the now master weaponsmith for the Stone Throne Galmiir BlazingForge who was apprenticed to Krannik early in his career. Krannik is a member in good standing in the Smith's Guild and a respected and honored leader in the community of Portsend.
