Drakenreth Hall
"The largest castle ever constructed in Oreion. Now it's the Inquisition's largest pile of rubble. Too large to garrison; but too iconic to destroy completely." - Carla KeenfistBefore Oreion's Unification, many powerful warlords laid claim to the fertile lands of Northern Solanus. The man known as Lord Drakenreth was particularly successful. Through brutal conquest, Lord Drakenreth conquered and subjugated any race he came across, and was feared by most. Using his vast amount of riches and slaves he had gained control of, Drakenreth set about constructing a monument to his greatness, stating that it would be the largest castle ever constructed on Arkos. After 30 years, Drakenreth Hall was completed, a towering dark stain on the beautiful sprawl of the Merigold Dale. As paranoid as he was brutal, Lord Drakenreth had his dwarvish slaves build a massive network of tunnels underneath the castle, which he trapped and stored his vast amount of ill-gotten riches within. When he wasn't away subjugating, Drakenreth spent his later years roaming the halls of his masterpiece, or greedily walking through his treasure rooms. Being exceedingly cruel, it is said that Drakenreth would sometimes offer a "game" to his slaves: if they could survive his trap network and make it to one of his treasure rooms, they were earn their freedom; and riches on top of that. It is unlikely that anyone foolish enough to accept his offer ever succeded. Some tales suggest that Drakenreth, his paranoia giving way to full blown madness, engaged in terrifying dark acts towards the end of his life. Some claim that he began to follow a Fallen Ancient, offering his slaves as ritual sacrifices. Regardless of the truth, Drakenreth's horrid reign was finally put to an end in a bizarre fashion. Though there is no great source of water near the castle besides a small lake and stream, Drakenreth Hall was completely flooded overnight. While many of Drakenreth's men and servants managed to escape, the Lord himself refused to leave his momument and all of its treasures, and perished as the water swept through the entire castle, leaving nothing behind but muck and eroded stone. Today, Drakenreth Hall sits empty, its ruins towering above the Merigold Dale region of the Oreion Inquisition. While some noble houses of Oreion have tried to claim ownership of it over the years, none have permanently resided in it. It is far too large a structure, requiring an enormous amount of manpower to maintain properly. There is also the widespread belief that the ruined castle is cursed, and that somehow, Lord Drakenreth still roams its cavernous halls...
