Ancient

Regarded as existing since the dawn of the First Age, the Ancients are entities of incredible knowledge and power, being created before the common mortal races that now make up the surface of Arkos. The Ancients were tasked with watching over a particular facet of creation, becoming an aspect of what they each represented. Currently, the remaining aspects after the damage of The Cataclysm each dwell in their own respective realm, separated by the The Barrier of Providence. Before the Cataclysm, the Ancient's main foes consisted of fending off attacks against creation by the Infernals, the Voidborn, and creatures from The Beyond.
Each recognized Ancient is acknowledged by the Church of Creation, and many garner followers and champions based upon the power and philosophy they represent to mortals. Regardless of their following or affliation, most mortals agree that the primary function of the Ancients was and is to be caretakers of Creation.
After the Cataclysm, the remaining Ancients loyal to the Creator became known as Prime Ancients, while those that were defeated became known as The Fallen.
It is generally known and accepted by those of religious, magical and learning affiliation that both Prime and Fallen Ancients gain their power from three primary sources:

• The innate power and magic that dwells within their respective realms
• The particular aspect that they are associated with / deemed a steward of
• The amount of followers / worshippers / beings that acknowledge them that they possess
