Icae

Written by Desyov

Goddess of Magic

Pronunciation - /i-KIE/   As one of the most influential greater deities, Icae finds herself with some of the most responsibility of almost any god, even rivaling the prime three.   Every time a divine entity acts; be it aspect, deity, or greater, it creates it's energy as if from nothing. Where mortals fuel themselves for their energy, divine beings are limitless, and therefore their energy adds to what exists in the world rather than simply reusing what was already there. Icae's job is to manage that energy, and keep it from overflowing. Consider the entire world of Argent a pool of water, and her job is to keep it still. Every divine action is a bucket recklessly tossed into said pool, leaving the worlds magic constantly at risk of overflow and without her would be a chaotic uncontrollable ocean of energy. Luckily for the people of Argent, she is incredibly good at her job.   When she was created in the aftermath of Vaz's outburst during the worlds beginnings, there was already so much work to do, and with Liphan and KikAkoOnuKas's plans to shape this new world she had to act quickly. She requested a gift from Oum, who obliged. This gift was the moon, known to the Seddenese as The Lens. This place is where Icae sits, alone, controlling the seas of magic without rest. It is said by many that if Icae did ever lose her focus for even a moment, all the magic of the world would become an uncontrollable mess of chaotic energy, that not even the most powerful mages could tame.

The Crescent Militia

Icae commands thousands of specially designed magically resistant constructs which are known as the Crescent Militia. These constructs vary from ones the size of humans, to others which tower nearly a thousand feet, all with different duties and roles under her charge. Where the smaller ones serve her chosen and perform her more petty duties within Argent, the larger ones exist to assist her in the resolution of more drastic conflict. They deal with large cosmic entities that threaten Argent itself, or fight on her behalf against other divine confrontation, like when Facit first broke free from what would become his prison.

Divine Domains

Clerics of Icae have access to the Arcana, Night, Knowledge, and Trickery domains when choosing their path.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The minimal number of followings of Icae and their distance make it difficult to peg a particular holy symbol as being unique to them. Their symbols or iconography often resemble the moon, or the ocean. Powerful wizards also tend to find faith in her, using her teachings to grow stronger in their arcane art. A particular sect of the Archons known as the Crescent State find themselves most notably known by their emblem, depicting an open book with the phases of the complicated lunar phases of the two sunned, four day rotation, plane of existence.

Holidays

Where many gods have days of rest in their faiths, Icae commands her follows to take what are called Days of Chaos. Whenever the moon is new, Icae's view of Argent becomes the most obscured, and so magical anomalies and outside interference are both more frequent and more severe. It's the role of her chosen, her Crescent Militia, and her faithful to handle the threats she cannot independently. She is told to reward the exceptional on these days with gifts of insight and guidance.

Physical Description

Special abilities

  • Icae has access to every spell, and can cast them without limit. She has been told to often break their rules, casting things faster or with more potency than is supposed to be possible. This trait has made her known as one of the most powerful gods, second only to the prime three.
  • Icae holds command over thousands of special constructs that she created to assist her in her duties. Where she keeps a focus on the magic of Argent, keeping it in check, she passively keeps tabs on her creations and has them protect Argent, and the people in it, from whatever may risk bringing it harm.

Specialized Equipment

Icae wears a suit of armor with a design mimicking that of her Crescent Militia, enchanted with an antimagic aura, making her physical form almost entirely resistant to magic. The armor is of a lunar steel adorned with cosmic crystals formed within the excess and shaped by her will. Many of her followers, specifically her paladins, mirror the design of their armor after hers, though few do so have the materials involved be true to the inspiration. It would simply be too hard to find the materials or shape them safely, that most go for a standard steel with deep crystal inlay instead.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Icae has by no means had the largest impact on history. In her time as deity, she has acquired a staggeringly small following in comparison to other gods of similar status like Deshai or Shiwa. Despite this, her material presence isn't lacking. She finds herself granting her power to those who worship the moon, even if those people don't worship her directly, as well as those who worship the idea of magic, or dedicate their life to defending Argent from outside sources.

Intellectual Characteristics

Magic itself is difficult to describe, and because of this so is Icae's mind. She speaks in many cryptic analogies when describing her job, and when speaking to her followers. Her divine servants follow a similar speaking pattern. This has caused those who worship her, or the moon, argue over the meaning of her messages since she first began giving them. She's never been known to give clarification.

Morality & Philosophy

Icae's primary focus, and thusly, that of her followers, is her job. Managing the magic that exists in Argent. This means that her view on life or emotion is a dull, and neglectful one. When it comes to creatures of the Excess or Outside, their feelings, or their wellbeing, Icae is unconsidering when she commands her subjects or her constructs to banish these creatures to their homes, or at least, out of the realm of Argent. Refugees from the Excess often attempt to find refuge in Argent, only to find themselves confronted with her guardians, and forced away, as to not interfere with the Tide.

Taboos

The techniques behind learning magic and casting it is complicated, and the many various aspects of this are hard to describe, but it always falls in line with the natural flow of magic. Icae absolutely forbids using magic in a way that disrupts this flow. This magic is known as outer magic. Outer magic is special, as it is magic that is not divine nor arcane. It comes from outside of Argent, and when used within causes incredible abnormalities within the flow of it all. Icae is unable to detect or govern outer magic like she can the others, and so she can only react to the aftermath.
