Session 07

General Summary

25th of Highwinter

  • We find an easy path that leads us safely through. By the evening we can hear distant urban noises, we know, given what we know, that we're half a mile from the city of Crossway. The woods are still thick and it's evening. Owl is sent to scope things out, he's gone for a half hour and reports that there is a large human settlement and that people are going in for the night, but there is a large town square with a wall of trees to the north and a gated wall in from the South.
  • Dubak and Asira head to Crossway to try and gather information and scope out the current situation. Peering through the trees we see mostly modest houses, the best we can tell this is the residential area. No one is out and about, and paths through grass are the only trafficked areas. Further in the distance we hear city life. Everything feels entirely normal for the outskirts of a city. Dubak makes himself look as unassuming as ever and Asira falls a few steps behind. The walk is perfectly casual for 20 minutes in residential areas, we follow the noises and find ourselves on the outskirts of a bizzare with traders and folks milling about. We also see Illidiyan soldiers about.
  • Dubak approaches someone selling meat and kabobs who asks about his presence there. The man is confused by Dubak's rambling answer about how he arrived there and then shows pity on Dubak's clearly ravaged mind. Dubak can't get a license for his cart and he decides to accompany Asira back to get Haldrick and Mariana, who head back into town as Dubak and Beck set up camp and head into town with no issues.
  • The guards now seem organized and moving in groups of 7, it's fully dark out now but the hustle and bustle is strong as people move about. Haldrick decides to go visit merchants to ask about someone matching Linus' description, but no one has seen anything. Wandering around the market it's determined that this city is quite large, it was the first city to fall during the war, the southerners control it, but there are many shops, pretty much anything you'd expect to find. Haldrick goes into an alchemist shop and is greeted. He asks for potions of health and how much they charge. They have a conversation about the staff of healing hanging on the wall, as well as the greater healing potions and regular ones. He poses as Lord Vormoth to get a discount on the potions, using the stolen Maj's Guild card. The party informs him that Lord Vormoth is wanted by the South and furiously tries to backtrack his actions but is thorted at each turn.
  • Asira goes into a general store and buys Paper, Ink, Quill, and 2 Rations, then Mariana joins her and heads to a dive-tavern to ask the barkeep if she's seen someone like Linus. She resists answering after Asira's question, but Mariana gets a better response from her.
  • Dubak buys some roast mutton with potatoes and corn from a tavern, he asks to speak to the Chef, he is declined and told to come back in the morning. Dubak and Beck eat.
  • Haldrick is accompanied by local guards to the Governor's office, while attempting to communicate that he is not Lord Vormoth.
  • After some persuasion, the barkeep does believe that we're on her side (the resistance) and gives Mariana and Asira directions and a secret knock and directs them towards a residential area.
  • Dubak finally gets his audience with the Chef and they discuss cabbage and going into business together.
  • Haldrick has a face to face with the governor. Who immediately knows that Haldrick is not Vormoth. After some discussion he says that Haldrick deserves the bounty on Vormoth's head. He asks him to return at dusk two days from now.
  • After a brief meet-up Dubak, Beck and Haldrick head back to camp and Mariana and Asira head to the "resistance" house. We're invited into a dark room with beds on both sides by a young man, and state our purpose for being there and who sent us that way. He says that this is a safe house, and says he recognizes Linus and that he passed though a couple days ago with a skinny teen, saying he was heading South, but seemed to know all the passwords and op's for the resistance. He did hear an incident had occurred around the city gates, but he didn't look into it further. He did not have a way to forge travel papers for Linus either.

26th of Highwinter

  • We all take a long rest at camp. Mariana confesses that she is secretly a baker, embarrassed for loving something so "soft." Asira and Haldrick try to decipher another page in The Book of Norvus but don't make any headway.
  • Mariana and Asira head back to the Drunken Troll and meet with Korra, who tells them that the governor could be persuaded because of shifty alliances, and that the incident at the gate involved two people trying to leave south, one was captured and brought to prison and the other escaped.
  • Mariana bought baking supplies and Dubak had a conversation about food with the stall owner and decided to help him work the stall that day. Haldrick is walking around and goes to the tavern and then decides to help Dubak by rounding up customers for the stall. Dubak drills up business doing a habachi-style show.
  • Mariana created a cinnahampster and then bonded with her familiar.

27th of Highwinter

  • Haldrick, Mariana, Arsira, and Beck head back to the governor's office, Magistrate Noreeno, in the evening.
  • He thanks us for handling Lord Vormoth after receiving confirmation from Jolana village about his capture, and informs us that we are entitled to his bounty.
  • He gives us 100 platinum pieces, which we split evenly between the five of us.
  • His associate, Gallman, then casts a Zone of Truth spell.
  • The Magistrate asks us to meet him in 2 days in another location to give us the full details of a job he'd like us to do for him.
  • After asking questions of our loyalties, he asked his guards to leave all of us, and we asked conversed further about it, asked questions, and ended up speaking about Linus.
  • Dubak spent time making Kimchi.
