Mariana grew up surrounded by humans. Dismissed by the locals, and rejected by her parents, she found solace in nature and sought company with animals.
Her sister, Amelia, was born 5 years after her, and Mariana quickly felt a connection with her. Her parents had been elated with the arrival of a delicate beautiful human baby girl, and did what they could to keep their daughters apart, fearful of Mariana's influence on their precious flower. The girls had few real moments together, but anytime they did was a memorable bonding experience. Amelia sneaking treats to Mariana, Mariana braiding Amelia's hair, or the one time when she was 14, she managed to sneak Amelia down to the beach. These moments were fleeting though and while Mariana enjoyed the company of nature and animals, she sought a human connection, sought to find her place in the world.
When she was 13, spending sunny afternoons on the beach or meandering the docks, she found a water Genasi ship captain and she felt drawn to his ship. Mariana approached the captain, who made eye contact but turned away quickly. Mariana, too excited to notice the snub, tried to have a conversation with the Genasi, who rejected her at every turn. Exasperated, the captain turned to face her, towering over her, "listen child," he boomed, "go back to your humans and stay there, there is no place for you on the sea."
Mariana fought for two more years to find a place in town, but felt the ocean, and the winderness calling to her. So she left home, taking few posessions with her, she began to travel the world to find where she belonged. Exploring and constantly moving, she lived in caves of all kinds; on ocean floors, deep in the mountains, and hidden in the tallest forests.
Mariana Kolga is a striking figure. A Water Genasi woman of thirty-six years, she stands tall and imposing at 5'11", her height accentuated by a powerful, athletic build honed by her life as a Barbarian.
