Session 02

General Summary

6th Day of Highwinter, 1812 to the 11th Day of Highwinter, 1812 - The Ocean's Majesty

  • Captain Puff informs us that it will take a week to get to Odrani and rendevous with the Savdogar, the floating city of The Njorden Clan of Dwarves and the center for trade in the Odrani Archepelago.
  • During the journey we become acquainted with several members of the crew of The Ocean's Majesty and engage in several of the ship's tasks.

  • Dubak tries to help Elgar in the ship's kitchen but makes of mess of things and gets relegated to the corner to watch.
  • Haldrick Ironfist is helping Varrick and Lothgar. He makes a couple new friends and earns their sympathies, but they do not join his cause.
  • Linus is below deck sharpening tools, organizing rigging, and cleaning spare sailcloth.
  • Asira Galeseed is pinch-hitting tasks between tending to minor injuries and tending to Crollman the old Cleric.

12th Day of Highwinter, 1812 - The Savdogar

  • Haldrick heads to Embassy Ally. As he arrives he hears words in the tone of insults coming from some dwarves in the hallway ahead and he can sense tension that could soon turn physical. In a quick-witted moment he conveys a moment of unity among the dwarves on both sides saying "at least we're not elves," which releases the tension long enough for 2 guards to come between the groups and dismantle the gathering. They thank him for breaking up the tension and in their gratitude they give him advice and offer him the ability to see the dwarven shop area of the ship where tourists aren't usually allowed. He learns that the conflict he broke up was between Njorden Clan dwarves who are sea-faring and the Embassy for the Skjoinel Clan dwarves who hail from the mountains. There is much animosity between the "way of the dwarves" and what is natural.
  • Linus is in the wind. He is located later in Embassy Ally, coming out of The Numidian Confederation Embassy. He went to try and make contact with the people who originate on the continent where Eduvi, the party's final destination, is located.
  • Dubak looks for food and finds a stall selling a "meat" sandwhich which he gets in line for. Turns out the meat is Displacer Beast and thus the sandwhich goes for 5 gold. He tries to persuade the stall's owner to give him the recipie, but she is unwilling to share the "bread and butter" of her business. She does however recognize that Dubak is well on his way to becoming well versed in the nuances of the culinary arts and allows him to hang around and watch the cook work.

  • Mariana and Asira go exploring. Mariana looks in shop for improved armor, but the prices are more gold than she is willing to part with or pool and she leaves empty handed. Asira goes into Dobkins Herbs and Sundries and purchases a bag of phosphorus and a bag of insense for 2 copper. Then purchases: Nightshade, Winter's Bite, Firethorn, Weavegrass, Rotshroom, Gravedust, Siren's Call, Shadowleaf, and Cinderroot for 1 silver. Satisfied she moves onto Cassandra's Ships and Sails to buy a scrap of sailcloth for 1 copper.
Members of the party keep going about their repsective wanderings.
  • Haldrick heads to a few more embassies in hopes to find some dwarves who are looking to help him take back his home island of Lone Hammer Mountain. The Genowa Traders are unhelpful so he heads over to the Skjoinel clan, where he also strikes out. He does strike a deal with Lothar the embassy representative for the Fjall clan and offers to help them on his visit to Mar Tesoro and they will help him in return. The embassy for Axe Maker's Peak and The Shield are not helpful. Most of the dwarves here either seem content with their lots and positions or unable to speak or act on behalf of their clans or collectives. They are sympathetic to his cause and most would be willing to trade with him or be allies once his home is back under his rule.
  • Dubak finds a spot to fish from the top deck and begins trading stories with some "grey beards," he learns of a similar incident to his that happened to a fisherman in the Abalan Sea between Khalen and Oyshu.
  • Asira spends 1 gold to give a forman of the docks a letter to pass on to a Captain of a ship due in 2 days who is headed straight to Eduvi and can likely get it to Faelan, Asira's Druid mentor who requested their help.
  • Haldrick finds the guard who were willing to grant him passage into the "special dwarven shops" and asks if he can bring his friends who are "a good crew." They give their permission and Haldrick heads up to the open-air market to gather everyone and bring them back down to the guards who lead the way.
  • The party checks out the armory and the tatoo parlor but catches their eye at this time, or nothing feels worth pooling their gold or spending much of their purse. The knowledge of what is possible with magic-infused ink in tatoos may serve them well in the future though.
  • Asira heads up to Embassy Ally to try and meet with an intuitive or an energy reader to see if they've noticed anything "old" and "dark" ramping up in their travels in Odrani, something that may hint at what Rosemary Silverbend had passed along to Faelan Coppervin, Asira's mentor. The monk at the embassy for the Temple of Irori isn't able to help, but they learn of Irori's prior human form and how he reached a level of self-perfection through self-improvement that he ascended to godhood. There are many followers of Irori's in Wiru. He sends them to the monk at the Temple of Torag who shares the same affinity for self-discipline and there the monk comments on generations war between the Northern Lorminites and the Southern Irridians on the small island of Mar Tesoro. He directs you to the Fjall clan who seem to be particularly concerned with the ongoing conflict there. A visit to the Fjall clan, with introductions made by Haldrick who visited earlier, leads to a small piece of information with large ramifications, the Fjall clan holds themselves to be the rightful rulers of Mar Tesoro.
Everyone beds down for the night and in the morning they undock from the Savdogar and resume their duties aboard The Ocean's Majesty as they set sail on the 6 day journey to the Lorminite port of Fort Bolland.

14th Day of Highwinter, 1812 - The Ocean's Majesty

  • A fight has broken out on the top deck between the 2nd mate they call Beck and a ship crewman named Norbert who has not shut up about his lady back home at Shamusport. It turns out these two men have shared the same lady and she is pregnant. In sailor's tradition the two men pile their gold and fight. The winner get to keep sailing and the loser takes the gold and leaves to return to his woman. Beck is the clear winner and when Norbert comes to he exclaims with glee that he's getting married.

16th Day of Highwinter, 1812 - The Ocean's Majesty

  • Crollman, the old Cleric who Asira has been tending predicts a very big storm in two days time. Asira shares the news with Captain Puff and they make haste to Mar Tesoro.
  • Dubak catches some fresh fish and puts his new sandwich skills to use making some for the crew and gains a considerable following amongst ship-mates.

18th Day of Highwinter, 1812 - The Ocean's Majesty

  • As they get closer to the northside of Mar Tesoro, a ship mate calls down from the crows nest to announce that it looks like Fort Bolland is on fire. As they get closer they spot the flag of the Illidians, the southerns, flying on one of the Lorminite towers. We look to Captain Puff for instructions and he says we're going to sail east along the coast and hope that we make it to Breakshore Village before the storm gets too bad. As we come about we see an Illidian vessel leave the one remaining dock and start towards us. The captain exclaims that a ship who has been supplying their enemies with weapons will not fare well if it's caught.
  • The storm gains in intensity and the whole crew can sense they're in trouble. Mariana, one of the strongest on board heads to the helm to keep the ship sailing into the waves, Haldrick goes to help. Asira, Dubak, and Linus head below deck to start grabbing cargo to off-load at the Captain's bequest. Things are not going well. The Ocean's Majesty is taking on water and the crew cannot keep up with the bailing of water off the deck.
  • Dubak's agility is required to climb the mast and either tie back a sail that has come loose from it's bonds or cut it loose. He manages to cut it loose using acid-fist but falls on his way back down, barely managing to slow his decent at the last moment.
  • The verocity of the storm, Inorem's inability to be unselfish and let his cargo go overboard, and the tension that's been building between the 1st and 2nd mate since the promotion and demotion send Beck and Inorem into a fight on the deck in the worst possible time. Beck eventually wins and Inorem is killed.
  • The helm starts to slip and the ship is hit sidelong with a wave. Everyone is thrown to one side of the deck. It's announced that the captain has gone overboard and a decision must be made to try and save him or keep the nose of the battered ship into the waves. Mariana, feeling confident and comfortable in the water ties a rope to herself and jumps into the dark sea to try and rescue the captain without having to reorient The Ocean's Majesty. She is unable to see him through the storm's dark and clody water but Linus spots him from the deck and shouts to her. He points and Mariana swims that direction. Dubak uses his vast fishing skills to cast the life-buyoy towards the captain and Mariana sees where it lands and finds the captain. She gets him on the buyoy and the crew hauls in the line as quickly as they can.
  • Captain Puff is cold and disoriented but alive. However The Ocean's Majesty is now in the worst position imaginable for the wave barreling towards them and it's hit.

19th Day of Highwinter, 1812 - The Ocean's Majesty

  • The crew wakes up on the shore of the beach, which can only be on Mar Tesoro somewhere between Fort Bolland and Breakshore Village.
  • Many crew members are dead, including Norbert whose grave is being dug by Beck.
  • The ship is destroyed and cargo, pieces of the wreck, and the personal belongings of the crew are scattered along the shore line and in the shore break.
