Trilmo Confederation

The Trilmo Confederation is a small country of three million in the southeast of Aquevaia. Trilmo controls two islands to the north of the country, as well as the entrance to Twingap Bay. The Confederation is composed of four provinces with the capital of Hasaeti (HAW-sai-e-tee) on the coast. There are nine major settlements besides the capital.

Structure

The Trade Conclave

The Trilmo Confederation began as a tentative alliance of merchant guilds staking out new territory away from the heavy taxes in Illarescia. Since then, the seven major guilds have strengthened their ties to each other and consolidated their hold on power. The Master of each guild serves as a representative to Trilmo's Trade Conclave, the ruling power of the country. The Trade Conclave is responsible for setting tariffs, maintaining trade routes, defending the Confederation's borders, and for foreign affairs.  

The Seven Coins

The Seven Coins is the nickname given to the seven major merchant guilds who send representatives to the Trade Conclave. The guilds are the Smithing Guild, Jewelers' Guild, Woodcarvers' Guild, Weavers' Guild, Seafarers' Guild, Alchemy Guild, and Performers' Guild.

History

During the Silver Schism four hundred years ago, a significant amount of wealthy Illarescians were outcast from the Empire of Illarescia due to their refusal to pay extraordinary taxes to the king. Fleeing their banishment, they arrived on the peninsula of what is now Trilmo and discovered a sparsely populated land. The few tribes inhabiting the region welcomed the refugees. With the wealth they had remaining from their flight, the former Illarescians rebuilt their cities in the likeness of their homeland. They capitalized on the location of their new settlements, reaping in trading profits by acting as middlemen for goods coming out of isolated Ayarara.   As wealth flowed into the new country, political pressure soon forced the disparate city-states to band together into a more cohesive union. Each city sent a member of their most prominent trading house to Hasaeti to hold a convention on the creation of their emergent country. Thus, the Trilmo Confederation was born and the Trade Conclave came to power.

Demography and Population

As a vibrant trading country and gateway to Ayarara, the people of Trilmo are as diverse as their guilds. While the majority of the population is of elvish descent, significant numbers of kenku, genasi, kobolds, dwarves, and humans also live in the country.

Foreign Relations

Mostly oriented towards trade and commerce, Trilmo rarely mettles in world affairs that do not directly impact their profits. As such, they have a cordial relationship with the other eight kingdoms in Aquevaia, though recently tensions have flared between the Confederation and the Empire of Illarescia over control of the city of Uharte on the Isle of Serpents.
