Delfino

Delfinos are dolphin-like aquatic mammals. They come from the Plane of  Water. Are an aquatic Fae race, and are related to the Valas  and often live near them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Their size ranges from 8 to 20 ft and can weigh from 400-1800 lbs. They have streamlined bodies, two sets of flippers, one large and one small dorsal fin, and a horizontal tail. Are very flexible and love to perform gymnastic dances both in and above the surface. They are fast and can swim up to 60 mph.

Genetics and Reproduction

They can mate with any similar type of creature as them, preferably other cetaceans, as they are only crossfertile with them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Delfinos are carnivorous preferring fish and squid to anything else

Additional Information

Social Structure

They live in large pods usually separated by sex and only come together to mate, or rarely in small family units, somethings with extended family. Their society is matriarical, and the male pods are patriarical.

Facial characteristics

They have a long, wide face, with small eyes on the side of the head, and a bulbous forehead.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They prefer to live in warm and temperate waters and rarely travel to colder climates.

Average Intelligence

These are a very intelligent and sentient species, but from their looks most think they are nothing but simple animals.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their are a set of short spikes running down their spine and a semicircle to the front of their melon, this lets them sense the electrical signal in other life forms. They have a high concentration of magnetized iron in their composition that helps them harness and focus their psionic abilities.
  • Telekinetic levitation: lets them float through the air like the air walk spell
  • Electrokinesis: allows them to use mage hand and lightning bolt
  • Bio-electric shield: this protects them as well as lets turns the water into airy water as the spell, to ally them to breathe air without surfacing.
  • Telepathy: they have learned to speak to humans in their own language through this ability since they have no vocal chords to speak.
Have excellent hearing above and below the water. This helps them with their echolocation, some can even survive without their sight because of this ability. They use sonar for orientation, locating, and hunting. They have no sense of smell or taste.

Having grown up as one of those girls obsessed with dolphins, I very much enjoy the idea of being able to telepathically communicate with one.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .
