Brewer
This is an old profession, many craftsmen have taken up this profession, but not all are successful. It has a long history and various cultural traditions. In some places, brewing is a way to ensure clean water, a stout drink for enjoyment, and for religious celebrations. Most households could at least make small beer, herbal tinctures, and concoctions for medicinal reasons.
Depending on the location, this was the head woman of the house's job. In some places the temple/monasteries provided brews for celebrations, they were also able to sell them without having to pay taxes on them for their upkeep.
Many brewers started with herbal concoctions, and small beer before progressing to stronger beers, ales, and distilled products. Some picked their favorite and stayed with that type and never progressed further or created their types.
Beer is the easiest thing to brew, then various types of mead, many brewers don't like making wine, as they think that is for vintners. Herbal teas and other concoctions are often made as well or at least fermented by the brewer.
