Dragon Species in Annals of Atamor | World Anvil

Dragon

Dragons are the youngest of Lady Susanne's creations. When Humans and Elves were already living in Atamor and Our Lady was rulling Atamor, the Dragons appeared. The regal White Dragons became Lady Susanne's elite guard. Red and Green Dragons settled in the mountains. Blue Dragons settled in the northern sea. The Black Dragons flew to the east and disappeared beyond the horizon. Some say that they reached another land and settled there.
— Chronicle of Atamor
Dragons are the only non-humanoid sapient species in Atamor. They are highly intelligent, but didn't create any political organizations. Currently, dragons live mainly in the Great Mountains and the Erell Mountains. It is said that in the Age of Susanne dragons were the elite guards of Lady Susanne.

Subspecies

  • White Dragons - most noble and regal of the Dragons
  • Green Dragons - the most common and the smallest type of Dragons. Bipedal and no wings
  • Blue Dragons - live in the sea, no wings
  • Red Dragons
  • Black Dragons - long age they left Atamor and flew to the east

King of the Dragons

The oldest male of the White Dragons is always the King of the Dragons. All Dragons are loyal to him and obey his orders. The title of the King of the Dragons isn't hereditary.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragons are a diverse species, but most of them are lizard-like, but bigger. They usually have four limbs. Depending on the subspecies the front limbs may be just for walking or may be prehensile. Most dragons have one pair of wings on their backs and are able to fly.

Genetics and Reproduction

When courting dragon males and females secrete pheromones which attract members of the opposite sex. Dragons are capable of controlling when the pheromones are being secreted. Male pheromones work also on females of other species. Male Dragons are capable of reproduction for almost their whole life, while females can lay only 4 eggs during their whole life.

Ecology and Habitats

Dragons can live in almost every environment. The only reason they don't expand out of the mountains is that Humans do all they can to keep the Dragons there. It is a symptom of difficult relations between Humans and Dragons.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragons are carnivores, meaning that their primary source of nutrition is meat. However, they can survive up to 20 days without eating and stay in excellent physical condition.

Dragons betrayed us. Instead of protecting Lady Susanne they pledged fealty to Koschei the Deathless and later to the Empire of Atamor. What's worse they kept fighting for the Empire even when most of its soldiers joined Irenaeus. Dragons can't be trusted.
