(Ship of Fools) The Temple In The Forest

Desperately in need of gold, the crew of the Le Morg have to complete quests, one of which takes them back to Eir Ciddig, but this time into the forest of Ynslas to search for the hidden ruins of Mach Vanna.     The party can choose to moor near the forest of Ynslas. Upon entering, the party has to look for the entrance, which can be done with a keen investigation or perception check (DC 15). Upon finding the entrance (a stone entrance hidden in a tree hollow), the party enter the dungeon and get into the first room, the party finds the bodies of the previous party sent (a bunch of wood-tier adventurers with 50 gold about them and not much else). There is an inscription on the wall:   I weaken all men for hours each day. I show you strange visions while you are away. I take you by night, by day take you back, None suffer to have me, but do from my lack.   Besides the exit, there are no other door. Worse still, the entrance shuts behind the party, and the room is lit by lights (one for each side of the room). For every 15 minutes that passes, a room light is extinguished, until all lights are extinguished, at which point the Tlincalli from Room 3 are summoned into the room to slaughter the party. To pass the room, the entire party be asleep, and after the rest, the party find themselves in the second room. The room has four doors, painted on all sides by the word CHOOSEASIDE. In the center of the room is a plaque with a compass rose and the following inscription:   DARE YOU ENTER THIS REALM THIS SANCTUARY OF EPERGETHGE IF YOU WISH TO PASS BRING WARMTH TO THE WALLS AND CHOOSE WISELY The solution to this puzzle is to heat any wall enough to reveal which door to take. Taking any other door takes them to Roo 3, but they will have twice the number of Tlincalli in the room to deal with.   In the final room, several braziers surround two golden status of Tlincalli, and a demonic statue is holding an artifact, beneath which is a chest gilded with jewels. Beneath the statue is a plaque:   THERE ARE ONLY DEGREES OF GREED AND THUS, DEGREES OF SURVIVAL TAKE NONE, AND LEAVE UNSCATHED TAKE ONE, AND FIGHT TO LEAVE TAKE ALL, AND YOU MUST LEAVE ONE   Taking only the artifact will break open only one Tlincalli. However, grabbing anything else will summon both Tlincalli to action, whose raucous movements will compromise the ceiling. In the one Tlincalli scenario, the party can leave through a door once the Tlincalli is defeated; but the last scenario is a death trap - only by sacrificing someone will the rest of the party be able to leave with all treasures intact.   Treasures:   130GP 280SP 14000 gp, 1600 pp 3 x 250 gp art objects (Carved ivory statuette, Carved ivory statuette, Large gold bracelet) 1 magic item from Table F : Weapon +1 4 magic items from Table G : Weapon +2 Weapon +2 Horn of Valhalla (silver or brass) Ring of protection
