Duhmor

People fear want they don't understand, that's natural. When men shed there skin and turn to beasts, or bare fangs before biting into a child's neck, it's hard to trust others. So when a group of strangers armed to the teeth rode into town, folk were afraid. Even more so when they erected kindling footed stakes in the center of town. About three weeks back, after a full moon, we had found the mangled body of some farmhand on the edge of town. Claw marks had raked his body, but when the village elder looked the poor boy over he concluded that this was no mere beast. We sent Kirk, a young lad with good legs on him, to go to the next town over looking for help. Kirk came back with these lads, so we listened to their instructions and followed their orders. They cycled through townsfolk one by one with some odd mirror, crossbows trained on whoever they were pointing it at. Eventually they got to the blacksmith's wife, and in the mirror we all saw this horrid rat creature where she was standing. She pleaded plenty, screaming that a mistake must've been made. The pyre showed the truth in the end though, when the beast in her heart tore through her skin. Sometimes I can still hear those inhuman screeches. I didn't know who those lads were, but clearly I didn't know much of that blacksmith's wife either! I lost faith in my neighbors that night, but it did give me faith in the high powers, who'd sent those brave warriors to protect me and mine!

Structure

The Duhmor, or Witch Hunters, are overseen by an inner circle of high officers who direct and dispatch fellow acolytes. Seniority is the primary determiner of rank within the order, with each acolyte deferring to the orders and recommendations of their veteran elders. Beyond that, each hunter is left to his own devices and expected to preform his duty.

Public Agenda

The solitary goal and purpose of the Duhmor is to eliminate the practitioners of the dark arts and other forms of unnatural evil.

Assets

A portion of noble taxes and religious tithes are deferred to supply the Duhmor, and it is customary for those villages and towns who are assisted to reward individual hunters. They are known to be well and heavily armed, with many using magic to assist in their trade. Their central fortress in Angel's Grace old quarter is rumored to even have silver lined cannons in it's arsenal.

History

While they are now considered a branch of the choir, the Witch Hunters predate it's founding. Some say that it was established during the days of High King Volhag before rising to prominence during the Long Night. Other's say it is an ancient order that predates even the oldest of noble houses, with traditions that date back to the time when gods walked among mortals. Only the eldest veterans might know, if anyone.
