Flosaltu Research Outpost

Hidden deep within the Flosaltu Peninsula lies the ruins of one of the 'Ancient Ones' research outposts. Few know of it's existence, and fewer yet have actually laid their eyes on it. Throughout the centuries the dense flower vegetation has reclaimed the outpost, growing through and over it.

Purpose / Function

The outpost was created with the intention of studying and experimenting on plant life. The location was chosen to contain any hazardous studies, the salty sea killing off any escaped seeds, and the narrow land bridge being easy to burn. While in operation the research outpost experimented with various species of plants, trying to figure out how to grow them, what potential uses they may have, and how magic could be used to improve them.

History

Long ago when the 'A.O.' civilization was at it's peak, the 'A.O.'s' had so many resources available to them that they spent a lot of their efforts on the pursuit of knowledge. They set up research outposts across Tamerea to run their experiments, and one of these was set on a peninsula. This particular research outpost was in use for many years before a major accident occurred. An experiment went wrong and there was a sudden explosion of plant growth that caused many experiments to escape the outpost and take over the surrounding area.   The 'A.O.'s' tried to get things under control, but in the end the entire peninsula was taken over by the aggressive, magically enhanced vegetation. As a last ditch effort the 'A.O.'s' set up a burn line at the head of the peninsula that stretched from one coastline to the other. they would frequently burn this line to keep the vegetation from spreading outside of the peninsula while they worked on a more permanent solution. This never happened for the world's magic levels crashed not long after. The inhabitants of the research outpost eventually set up an outpost near the burn line, and continued to contain the vegetation within the peninsula. To this day, people continue this tradition of burning the border several times a year.
