Flosaltu Peninsula
There are rumors of some kind of 'Small Plant Folk' can be found in this jungle.
The Flosaltu Peninsula is home to an unusual forest that is choked with vines and flowers. Many of the plants found here grow incredibly quickly, and if it wasn't for the forest being surrounded by ocean on three sides, it would have taken over the entire continent. Where the forest does connect with the rest of the continent, the locals burn stretches of land several times a year to restrict the forest to the peninsula.
Geography
The forest is restricted to a single peninsula, and is cut off from the rest of the mainland by a river that was diverted to form several channels that empty out into the nearby sea.
Ecosystem Cycles
Locals that live near the peninsula will cycle through burning the strips of land between the channels to control the native flora and keep it from spreading to the mainland.
Fauna & Flora
The Flosaltu Peninsula is home to many dangerous plants, some that are carnivorous, and some that release poisonous pollen and seeds.
Natural Resources
Despite the danger that this forest presents, many will venture into the area to gather rare and valuable plants. Many of the plants native to this forest are found no where else, and are sought after by alchemists, and collectors alike.
History
It is said that the Flosaltu Peninsula was once home a regular forest, and during the time of the 'Ancient Ones' they had a research outpost studying a magic well and it's effects on the local plants. Before the magic levels crashed there magic well expelled a surge of magic that mutated many of the local plants, and caused them to grow out of control. When the magic levels crashed, the forest had no more magic to excel their growth, but as the magic levels have increased in recent times, the forest has sprung back to life and has begun to spread.
Once scholars realized that the forest was spreading efforts were made to contain it to the peninsula. A series of channels were dug and a river diverted to create stripes of land that could be easily maintained. For extra security a massive wall was also constructed, and access to the peninsula became highly restricted.
Tourism
Few people are allowed to enter the peninsula, due to the dangerous plant life and the fears of some of the more aggressive plants escaping and taking over the mainland. However this doesn't stop poachers from sneaking in to harvest valuable plants and their parts for alchemy, medicine, food, and other materials.
